GM Vortec Max, your thoughts?
I was under the impression that the Vortexmaxx motor or what ever they are calling it was only available on the 1500HD, not the regular 1500. Perhaps I'm wrong, who knows. GM builds good motors, I'll give them that. A few problems with piston slap and what not, but I'd rather have piston slap on start up than plugs blowing out of the heads like the Triton engines have known to do. Of course I like my Hemi more than any of those.
The biggest disadvantage to this motor is that you can only get it with the LT trim. If, for some reason, someone doesn't want leather seats, Onstar, and all the other bells and whistles, you are out of luck. That is one of many nice things about the Hemi, you can get it on a ST or Laramie.
OK, I see now. LT trim only. When it first debued a couple of months ago, it only let me include it on the HD (when building it on the chevy website), I guess that they finally started putting it in the LT trim 1500(nonHD) trucks, too.
Still not a bad motor and it will respond to the typical HP treatment better than the Hemi in regards to computer tuning, et al.
Still prefer my Hemi

Those engines are powerful and get good milage I think on reqular fuel. The problem is cheap G.M. build quality. I've owned a 95 Z28, a 93 Buick Regal 3.1 v6, and my son has a 99 Olds
Alero 3.4 L v6 and a friend of mine has a 96 Tahoe 5.7 V8. Every one of these vehicle have had to have the intake manifold gaskets replaced before 60K miles. Except the taho which had I think 70K.
This is an expensive repair $400 to $700 if you don' do it yourself. And if you do it yourself you need a couple torque wrenches and a manual to do it right. If you own a G.M. you better be prepaired to deal with electrical problems, trim problems, and fluid leaks.

Idk about that, not every vehicle at least. Of course the build quality of these new GM's are a joke, heck they glue their friggin doors on. Anyways my old man has an 02' silverado with 85k on it and has yet to put any money into it other than a small problem with the U-Joints. Other than that it has just been general maintance. I think that GM put the Max out there to temporarly give GM the edge on the HEMI, but dodge will end that soon enough.
If you think about it.
it has a bigger engine and also its nearly 10,000 more as it says on the site (cost of ownership) a then the sticker price of a dodge and especially since i paid in the low 20's for mine because of my father in the business
i can easily put on a couple of upgrades and outrun those p.o.s. chevy's and i have rarely seen a vortec max i've maybe seen 2 or 3 so i have no worry about those chevys
dodge for life
