I would say an intake or exhaust system will never gain mileage. If they did, why don't they come stock on the truck.
because the performance crowd is small in comparison to the overall market... Most of the consumers want quiet and reliablity and take that over performance mods anyday.

A good exhaust setup and intake setup WILL get you milage. It has to be setup right and the driver has to keep his foot out of it.

I'm wondering here with emission standards and fuel economy the way they are nowadays, do you believe that engineers leave a restrictive non functional air intake system on any new vehicle?

actually the stock airbox is there to help prevent water intrusion... it also makes maint. easier. most of the boxes open up and you drop in a filter and w/in minutes your done.

ok, I drove the truck from downtown to home. It is approximately 13 miles. I popped the hood, got out of the truck, and felt the intake tube. No heat whatsoever. But, in order to find out if this air intake is a crock, I installed my OEM airbox back on to my truck with a regular STP air filter. There was one thing I did notice as I was assembling the airbox. I struggled a little bit with reinstalling the air sensor. I made sure it was all going in the right way and everything. Finally, I twisted it about 180 degrees and it fit. It almost seemed like Dodge made it so it would only fit one way. I figured it didn't matter as long as the sensor "window" was perpindicular to airflow. Am I just crazy or has any else noticed this?

OK. Once again we forget that modern vehicles have a computer that controls the fuel curve and timing. Making changes to the intake and exhaust system can cause problems if the ecm isn't retuned to take advantage og the mods.
Diesels seem to respond better without retuning but that's because they are restricted from the factory bye the stock exhaust and intake. Modern gas vehicles have intakes and exhaust systems tuned just for their power band. Why do you think the mufflers on our trucks are so big? So there is enough volume for flow while meeting nois laws.
As I've said before the stock filter in my 04 4.7 ram has the same part # as the 5.7 hemi and the old 8.0 v10, if it'll flow enought for a v10 it'll flow enough for a 4.7 and a hemi. I ran a k&n drop-in in my truck and it felt like it lost a little bottom end. The only place these cai's are going to help is top end where we're limited by the stock computer program anyway. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
