Default Lost gas mileage

Last fall I bought a Trueflow air intake system for my '03 Dodge Ram QC HEMI. It boasted that, because of it's sponge design, it cleaned the air better than any air intake filter on the market. It also claimed that it would add as much as 19HP to the engine. GREAT!! Clean air, more horses, more MPG. NOT!! I dropped 20% fuel economy since I've installed this thing. I avg 10 in the city and 14.5 on the hwy. Anyone had better luck with their intake system?

Haha, you been stomping on the gas harder to make it growl? I know that was my problem.

sounds like they may have been pushing that "sponge design" as a selling point when in fact it's more restrictive. I dont think much air can get through a sponge.

Actually, I haven't stomped on the gas as much as you would think. I started to originally to enjoy the growl and kick that I just gifted to my truck. Then, after a while, I drove it just as I did when the original airbox was on it. Still no improvement in MPGs. I haven't cleaned the filter yet because the manufacturer claimed it could go like 5 or 6 thousand miles without cleaning and still get the same performance. So, I'll give it a good cleaning and see what happens.

suggestion for you... take your truck out for a good long spin, pull over and feel the intake tube. if it's warm, wrap it with some insulation to prevent heat soak. if it's cold great. I read the website on this setup and it's a powder coated tube which could get heat soaked in stop & go driving or at a stop light. the colder you can keep the tube the better. colder air = more power (as we all know) and more power will = better mpg, IF you can keep your foot out of it.

Low end torque will help your milage the most. any mod that helps low end will help milage

I would say an intake or exhaust system will never gain mileage. If they did, why don't they come stock on the truck.

Do you have the intake coupled with a free flow exhaust like flowmaster or Magnaflow? I agree that some of the claims are a little outrageous. Don't think you will ever see much in the way of MPG increase. That is a marketing ploy. They know us dummies that bought gas guzzlers are feeling the pinch right now as gas prices continue to increase. You know how much money that idiot who invented the TORNADO has made just because of marketing. That thing is apiece of crap but at $65 the guy is making a killing.
