Mobil 1 Oil Change Interval
I have right at 6500miles on my truck and i am switching to mobil 1 @ 7000MILES. I got my first oil change at 3000 and the second will be at 4000mile interval any recomendations on the intervals with synthetic? Dodge recomends changing at 6000 or 3000(extreme use) I really cruise at 60mph and I live in the country very little stop and go. My dad changes the filter at 5000miles and adds a quart and all the oil at 10000miles and he drives a chevy with 203000miles everything is original except alternator and water pump
If you want to get the most out of your oil, you can send it out to any of the labs and just start working up the mileage. Personally, I'm gonna change my Mobil 1 every 5K miles. When you compare the cost of the oil over 5K miles vs. the gas spent to get there, it really doesn't cost that much. Especially Wally World bulk Mobil 1.
I have all of my trucks (we have 4) on a 5k plan. We use nothing but Mobil 1. For the years i've ben using synthetics, I have never had any internal engine failures while using Mobil 1 or Syntec and have always swapped them out between 5k & 7k miles.
Oil changes are a lot cheeper than motors...

Just my 2 cents worth... I am planning on using the "normal" oil change schedule recommended by Dodge at 6000 miles instead of the 3000 mile change (extreme use). The truck is pampered and sees no extreme use and very little towing. I use only Mobil 1 and have done so for many years in my other vehicles. I have never had an internal engine problem.
the 5k plan is actually easier to remember... every 5k multiple (25,30,35 etc) the oil gets swapped... costs an additional $30 (avg) per 15k miles driven when compared to the 7k interval.
I guess the thing to do though is get the oil tested in the car and monitor it's performance that way.

Wally world now has their 5w30 synthetic again. I am going back to this and I always change at 3000. I figure it is better than any brand name conventional oil and it is synthetic. I think it is made by quaker state.
