Stock Air Filter
I am going to go with a Fram and replace it on a regular basis. I think cost and the finer filtering of the Fram filter is a better idea for a off-road truck. I do have K&N on my sportscar and other on road vehicals.
you just have to keep it cleaned and oiled every now and again.
Luckily, I don't think the 3rd Gen Rams have a mass air Flow sensor, so it should not be a problem cleaning and re oiling the K&N just don't want to do it and gunk up the throttle body. I think Ford and GM still use the MAF so they run a bigger risk with over oiling.
I know the stock filter that came in my 04 4.7 ram is the same part # that comes in the hemi and 8.0L v10. I think the factory filter is a wix and that is what I went with. A paper filter filters better and factory filters are engineered to flow more than enough air to make the rated horse power.

I've used K&N on all my vehicles. There's been some discussion before that a few guys think they pass more dirt than a stock, but I've never seen any type of testing to back that up (it would be interesting to see something on that).
I've usually gotten about 1-1.5 mpg more when I've switched, so it does seem to flow better. I figure even if everything's the same $45 for a filter that lasts as long as the vehicle vs. $14 every 10-12k the K&N is cheaper in the long run.
