Why do dealer service depts suck so bad?!!!
I purchased a 05 Ram Quad 4x4 in Auguast 05. Had several issues with truck which had been resolved except for one. When truck gets hot I have a whinning noise (not the driver) coming from the cat area. They knew of the noise, actually have a few others doing the same thing. I felt like I was getting dicked with so I did the following. Spoke the the service manager and a mechanic and there are certain thing they can and cannot do under the rules of Chrysler. They need to follow the coporate game also. Undersatanding that explaination when I recieved a survey from Dodge I expressed my dissatisfaction with the truck and the resolve of this problem. Well that sure got things moving because that effects the star rating and cash incentived of the dealership. I was told "before you ever return a negetive survey or make a complaint to the company please see us first to discuss the problem". OK I gave them a few more month to get me fixed up. Two weeks ago I called and simply said "Seven month now and I am still experiencing tis noise. What are we going to do about it". The service rep told be they have no TSB as of yet. My response was "I have the on-line email/complaint page filled out and all I need to do is hit send and I also have serveral letters of complaints going to Dodge, Chrysler and a lemon law attorney if we have no options". I was put on hold then told to bring the truckin and they will begin replacing items inorder to eliminate this noise.
Talk to you service manager. As I understand it it it isn't authorized repairs they pay for it not Chrylser/Dodge. If you have a problem with thier mechanics ask for a different one or go to another dealership. If you didn't buy the truck there I wouldn't expect to much support though.
Another thing.. If it is a busy dealership a mine is.... happen to wonder out into the show room for your conversations. They hate when you get loud and show displeasure in front of potential customers....

it is hard to find a good dealership these days, it seems like even the local ones are turning rotten...as for me i know of one that is pretty decent, smaller chrysler dodge dealership, and a much larger one that has actually always been very good to me....service dept. and everything, how rare is that HA !
I can be that way with any brand of car at any price range. I have gone through the same Service Center issues with $80k German cars and my neigbor cant seem to have his Lexus ever fixed right. I have also found excelent dearer service centers as well. It has alot to do with the people and the service they commit to.

Well I would have thought in 9 years either they got new people or they now had 9 years of experience to get their **** together. Thanks for your non informative reply though.[sm=smiley20.gif]

And yet you continue to buy new vehicles from these people...???

That's exactly my next course of action...oh I will make sure to stop by and visit them afterwards. I'd mention it to the service manager but he and I have had a long hatred type relationship. This dates back to a 97 Dakota I purchased there that ended up being lemon lawed and sold back to Chrysler. He tried to tell me there was nothing wrong with that truck too. Can't believe this tool still has a job there. Everyone hates this guy.

My advice, find a new dealer ASAP. Or make a new friend that happens to be a mechanic.

Volkeswagen's ****ty dealer/service network and even worse customer service is the main reason why I'm driving the Ram right now instead of my '04 Jetta. Well, I'm not driving ANYTHING over here in The Sandbox, but you get the point... VW is another company who has yet to get their **** together. Aside from them going this year and completely killing off all aesthetics, it will be a cold day in Hell before I ever own another VW. And, if that frigid day ever comes, I'm going to be camped out in their showroom and service department first making sure that they finally have a clue!
I used to put some credence in the 5 star dealership citation but that went out the window fairly quickly as the first two dealers that I got sideways with were 5 star dealers. I also found that they are very sensitive to those surveys that Chrysler sends out and they will do everything they can to cut you off at the pass so that you won't send in a negative one.
I sent in a negative one on both dealers after first telling them that I was going to do it. I got a letter from Chrysler wanting me to take my truck back to one of them and I refused to do it, telling them that I would take it to the small, no star, dealer that finally fixed my problem and showed some interest in keeping it fixed. This dealer is 80 miles from me or 200 miles, depending upon which of my homes I happen to be in at the time. I orginally bought the truck from a non-star dealer after 3 other 5 stars tryed to hold me up while making the deal.
So, you can see that the amount of stars does not impress me and I told Chrysler what my opinion of this was, and that is, the non star dealers are working harder trying to get the 5 star rating and some of the 5 star dealers have forgotten how they got them in the first place. My recommendation; find a fairly large dealer that's working for their 5 stars and you stand a better chance of getting a good deal plus good service.

It's funny... Every dealership around here is a 5-star dealer, and I have received 1-star service from all of them... I know why too... The person that sends out the surveys sends them to the company instead of to the buyer... And rates themselves perfectly.
Well, as far as good service dealers go, the guys in Enterprise AL are great. I was visiting a friend there and my ram started chewing up the fan/accessories belts. The belt was winding around the fan clutch pack, peeling the belt in half length-wise. I was towing a car to MD the next day and I had to get that belt installed that afternoon. The dealership there brought me in that afternoon and fixed the belts, under warranty, and had me on the road that night. The good ones are rare, but a few still exsist.
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram QC 1500, and i have to tell you that these Domestic dealerships really don't care about the customers, once you pick up your vehicle, and drive off the lot. Once you purchase the vehicle, they GOT you. This is not the case with the Foreign dealerships, and i know this from first hand accounts. I've Talked to people who purchased Foreign vehicles i.e., Honda, toyota to name a few, and they have nothing but good things to say about their service at the dealerships. I purchased a Domestic vehichle, because i wanted to KEEP the jobs here, but with this continuous sorry treatment from these dealerships, i might have to purchase a import, and say screw whoever loses there jobs because of it. You would think with the present situation going on with GMC, some of them would WAKE UP.
The folks that have the cash to buy a dealership care about one thing. $$$$$
They don't care about you, me or anybody else.
They try to get away with anything they can and hire the lowest paid techs.
You get what they pay for.
It is rare, although possible, to find a dealer with techs that really gives a chit. But they are hard to find.

I haven't had to take my Dodge in for any type of service yet, but they (the specific auto group) always treated my wife right with her old Neon and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
