Default Why do dealer service depts suck so bad?!!!

So I take my 2 week old Ram back to the dealer I purchased it from to have a couple problems fixed and bedliner installed. The problems were a drive line vibe at 60 mph/1700 RPM and a metallic screeching sound coming from the front end when going in reverse. So they gave me a rental and kept it all day yesterday. They called me last night to say the obligatory phrase " We couldn't duplicate the problems. These A-holes put a whole 2 miles on the truck and there's nowhere to go 60 MPH within a 8 mile radius (all 25 mph speed limits around the city). I went to pick her up this morning and the service advisor tells me they just heard a little brake noise in reverse and that it's normal. What kinda bull**** is that? Why are these friggin service depts so goddam lazy???? A nearly $40k truck should have nothing of a vibe or metallic noise coing from it...especially at 700 miles on the ticker. I just don't get these morons. Betcha if it was out of warranty the sob's would have found problems. Funnier yet was after I got home their Customer Service called to poll me on their service. I gave this poor guy an earful. The sales team at Klaben Dodge was tops but their service department totally sucks ***! Oh yeah...it still screeched when I backed up at the dealer and the vibe is still there as well...but I still love this truck!

My advice, find a new dealer ASAP. Or make a new friend that happens to be a mechanic.

That's exactly my next course of action...oh I will make sure to stop by and visit them afterwards. I'd mention it to the service manager but he and I have had a long hatred type relationship. This dates back to a 97 Dakota I purchased there that ended up being lemon lawed and sold back to Chrysler. He tried to tell me there was nothing wrong with that truck too. Can't believe this tool still has a job there. Everyone hates this guy.

You're the exception, not the rule from what I have experienced with service departments in the last 20+ years

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to agree with Scootr on this one as my experience with at least two dealers have brought about the same results as he got. I had a leaking pinion seal replaced under warranty and the dealer replaced the lube in the differential with the wrong type fluid and did not add the anti-slip additive to it. Of course this caused the rear end to go bad within about 4000 miles.

When I took it back to them they replaced the pinion gears and bearings under warranty and I asked the service manager if he knew what caused this problem to begin with. He told me that they had no idea. I asked him if they replaced the lube with the correct product this time and he told me that they did. Not taking his word for it I checked the part numbers listed on the invoice and found that they had put the correct lube in it this time. On the original trouble the part number for the lube was not a Dodge part number and the invoice showed only one type lube had been used. When I asked the service manager if they had put the correct, synthetic lube in it the first time he told me that they didn't use anything but synthetic in any vehicle they worked on. I believe this to be BS and I know they didn't use the correct type the first time.

To make matters worse, a little over 500 miles later I am towing my trailer down the road and the rear end starts making a terrible noise and by the time I get it to a dealer in a town about 80 miles from home, it is completely burned up. The dealer put in a whole new assembly on this occassion and told me that the previous dealer had put the rear end back up too tight and that was probably what caused the problem. Needless to say I won't be going back to the first dealer again and since I have already had trouble with another 5 star dealer at home I have found me a small dealer, (no stars yet), that looks like they might know something about the truck even though they are 80 miles from one of my homes and about 200 from the other one.

I also had the same run around about noises and such in the rearend. They could not duplicate the noise! Will when I got home I looked under the truck and the pinion seal was leaking so bad that the bottom side of my truck was covered in gear oil. I would think that would send off some bells and whistles to a service dept, but I was there a week later getting a new rearend. I had it in for different problems 5 separate times and then traded it off, since it was getting near my warranty expored date. Now I found a different dealer and will try there service dept instead.

BMURPHY, Where do you work so I can take my truck so YOU can only work on it.

It goes back to a previous post I had. I was at the dealer getting my wife's car brakes done. They charged me for 2 hours of work plus parts. When I was talking to the service guy attending he told me if I wanted to work there. I said how much money can you make. He said that for a brake job, they charge 2 hours, but in reality it only takes 15-30 minutes. You get another car for brakes, do the same, so you are getting paid for 4 hours of work for only 1 hour. Of course the dealer gets most. So on top of the interests, plus warranty charges to the manufacturer for "not being able to duplicate", plus overcharging for parts (YES, MOPAR oil filters are just the same as PUROLATOR, just $4 more), they still dont want to do any work for you. Unless like scootr said, you are out of warranty then they will find all sorts of problems.
Go rent this movie "GUNG HO" with Michael Keaton. Perfect line in the movie when a Japanese found something not properly done, "That's the dealer's problem. Every car can't be perfect." Yeah right, like the dealer really wants to fix cars, the really want to sell. That's why "The sales team at Klaben Dodge was tops ".

Well I would have thought in 9 years either they got new people or they now had 9 years of experience to get their **** together. Thanks for your non informative reply though.[sm=smiley20.gif]
