Dealer tried rippin off my friend!
just thought i would post this little thread. my buddy called me to come look at a truck yesterday, it was a back 03 1500 QC 4x4 Laramie with 26k in OK condition. gorgeous truck really was though. they wanted 27k for it though!!!! i just laughed at the dealer, he got offended and asked what i was laughing at. i pulled the window sticker out of my glovebox, which was for an 05 dealer demo 1500 QC 2wd Laramie with 5k, with nav and sunroof for 37, after i had them put a couple things on it before i drove it off like rhino liner, mopar nerf bars and the extended warranty and 1 years oil changes it was like 39. then i showed the dealer my contract. 28k! and he asked how the hell i got it for that. i know i got a good deal, but was i getting THAT good of a deal or was my friend getting THAT ripped off? i did get all the incentives and cash back that we rolled into price and end of year and military. i thought 22k would be a good price, what do you think? anyway seeing that price for that truck just made me feel that much better at the apparent steal that i got. just thought you might get a kick out of that.

Sounds like that dealer likes to make a BIG profit. Retail should be around 22-24k depending on condition/options with that mileage. But you never know what a dealer took a vehicle in for. Wholesale right now is between 17-19k depending on options and conditions.

Find out if the dealer uses NADA or KBB for their prices on trade in's (most should use NADA, I believe). Figure out the price respectively for a used truck from the dealer, and work from there. That's what they use to come up with the money they pay you for your trade in, that's the method you should use to find out how much you should pay them for a used vehicle (baseline, anyway).

Sounds like your friend needs to do a LOT of shopping around. I was offerred a new, just rolled of the truck from the factory, 2006 Ram 1500, 4X4, Quad Cab with the Hemi MDS and SLT trim package today for $26,531.00 after all the rebates and dealer discount. Is that a pretty good deal or should I shop around?
