Hey all,

I just completed my first engine detail, and I thought I'd post the pic's. I'll list the products I used, and a brief summary for those interested. Let me tell you, it was the easiest 35 minutes I've spent on my truck. I know you guys/gals would appreciate it.

Total Time - 35 minutes (Start to Finish)

Just so you know, I'm a big fan of using Meguiars products (Meguiars.com), and nothing else touches my truck.

Product Used: All Meguiars products
Cleaner Wax - A1216
Safe D-Greaser w/foaming sprayer- D10501
Hyper Dressing - D17001
High Tech Applicator - X3070

Other Non Meguiars products used:
Glad Cling-Wrap (Yes, the stuff my wife uses for leftovers)
Parts Cleaning Brush
Dish-washing Sponge (My wife never found out where her sponge was)
Water (from the hose)
Elbow Grease (Please don't ask where you can buy this at) lol

Important!! I covered both sides of the fenders on my truck. Safe D-Greaser mixed 4:1 (Which I used) will remove wax if it gets on your finish.

I started by warming the truck up a little (warm not hot to touch). I then placed the Glad Cling wrap over the alternator, fuse box, and battery terminals. I attacked the roof under the hood first, by spraying Safe D-Greaser all over. I took a kitchen sponge (I thought my brush was to stiff too use on the paint), and began working the degreaser in, scrubbing everything. I then hosed the degreaser off. I dried off the hood with my shop vac, and some towels. I proceed to apply Cleaner Wax (A-12) under the hood with a High Tech Applicator, and left to dry.

While the Cleaner Wax was still on roof under the hood, I proceeded to the engine. I sprayed the engine down (with no nozzle or sprayer just let the water pour out on very low). I followed the same step with the Safe D-Greaser, and sprayed all over the engine bay and side walls. I then took my parts cleaning brush, and agitated the degreaser. I then rinsed the degreaser off. I used my Shop Vac to blow the areas out where water sat in pools (Air Filter Box). I then removed the cling wrap, and started my vehicle again for about 5 minutes. This helps the drying process. I towel dried any areas the still had water sitting (very few areas). After the engine bay was dry, I then applied the Hyper Dressing in the same manner all over, but avoiding spraying on the belts. I let the Hyper Dressing sit for about 15 minutes. During this time I went back to the roof under the hood, and removed the cleaner wax with a Terry towel. After that was complete, I went back to the engine. This time rubbing in the Hyper Dressing making sure it's even and not pooling up in any areas. I then closed the hood and had a smoke and a Pepsi. When I opened the hood to inspect my work, I was amazed.

I used bathroom towels draped over the fenders, held in place with some 3M Safe Release tape. You don't want to put anything plastic on your paint. I will sweat and melt onto your finish, leaving stains..

Another Important note:
I noticed most of you are running CAI. If you happen to be running a CAI with a cone filter, that filter needs to be completly covered, and cannot get wet. I would use a Freezer Ziplock (Large) and cover the filter, use about 1-2 zip ties to hold it in place.

LOL reminds me of a line from "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield where is asked a guy how much for big cars (he had a limo).

Makes me wonder, how much for a big engine?
