was wondering if anyone has the hemi ram with a 6 speed gear box, factory says its avalible but dealers say its not. im confused? im looking into a swap if its out there. plus gas is getting really bad i figured better mpg with an extra gear.

 

When I bought my truck the dealer said that you can't get it with the Hemi engine, period, even with a special order. Something with an incompatible drivetrain. I did the "build your truck" on the Dodge website, as well, and it wouldn't let you put them together.

 

May be some confusion here about what is available for the 2500 Ram and what is available for the 1500 Ram.

In the past DCX was willing to sell in Canada large engine option 1500 Rams with manuals - when they would not allow that option in the USA.

Perhaps with the change last month in the official 'CAFE' USA fuel economy rules this nonsense will disappear starting next year.

Old rules were a 'fleet average' MPG where thirsty large trucks could only be sold with penalty if enough small trucks could also be sold to meet the overall average.

New rules are trucks are measured for their 'footprint' cast on the ground (square feet) and each get a seperate MPG goal. As long as the truck meets the goal the automaker can sell as many as it has customers for, and no longer has to sell some off setting smaller vehicles (like PT Cruisers) to meet its fleet average.

2500 RAM HEMI is offered in 6 speed manual or 545RFE automatic

 

do you guys think its possible to swap it in to the 1500 i mean the theres not too much difference between these trucks to make it impossible is it .
