Default Just bought a 03 HEMI Ram

So I just traded in my 459whp SRT-4 for a 03 Quad Ram. I really like the truck so far, but I am a little concerned about gas mileage. The SRT-4 was rated to 30mpg highway... I averaged the last tank of gas and it came out to 19mpg. So I figured a Ram couldn't be too much worse. Well, I am a little concerned with the rising gas prices. What modifications have you guys done that rendered the most significant gas mileage difference? The truck came with a mild performance exhaust so that will probably help some. I'm thinking about a K&N intake and possibly a chip of some sort. Any suggestions?

Installing a superchip and a cold air system will help on mpg for sure, if you keep your foot of the floor board with the extra power your going to have .

The Ram will destroy you in gas over the srt-4!!! On a side note, welcome to the hemi ram.

Nice another Hemi Ram owner. But one question why did you get rid of a 459HP SRT-4. With Slicks thats an 11second car. A ram with that much HP would only be hitting the high 12's.

Dude, rule #1 for owning a Hemi: Bad Gas Mileage. No matter what you do, your going to get horrible gas mileage. The good thing about it, you have a Hemi.

Unless your hemi has the MDS system. But some hemi owners say it makes the truck feel slower.

I dont think anyone has proven the MDS has saved any MPG. Even Dodge only rates it 1 mpg better.

Oh, well thats nice. Maybe I just won't drive as much or something. My first tank of gas was 14.3mpg, but I was getting 19 on the highway. I hope this wasn't a bad choice. I did some math... It looks like if I drive 15k miles per year, I'll be paying 600 dollars more in gas per year. That does suck, but it could be worse. I really like the truck too. I think ill just drive less. I was looking at the intake and chip. The intake is 200bux, with is probably worth the money in the long run. The chip though, how much will that actually help? Doing a cost benefit analysis, I don't know if the chip is worth it. If it gets me to average 1mpg better on the highway, thats 6% better. If the chip costs 465.25 + lets say 10 dollars shipping, it will take 36,125 miles to just pay for its self. So, I do intend on keeping the truck longer than that, but still, its gonna take forever to start making me money. I think the intake would pay for itself within a year.

I was worried the SRT would blow. I always had to tune, or this and that and it became a big headache. Who wants to sit there and watch afr, boost and still try and keeping eye out for the road... not me. Speed is a good thing, but it just wasn't worth it to me. I got the HEMI cause it made so much more power than the regular v8 and the gas wasn't too much worse. A truck is also a lot more useful. Yeah, and with the amount of traction i was getting, I only did 13s... at 117mph lol.
