Default Volant Intake

Hey,

I was told by a friend of mine to screw AEM, INJEN, and K&N and go with Volant induction systems.

Has anyone had any experience with them. From what I see it looks like a stock box with a conical filter inside the box.

Here is the link: http://www.volantperformance.com/pdetail.asp?ID=41

Also, I'm ordering a SuperChip for my 05 Hemi and from what I've seen, adding a intake isn't going to do anything for the car when I get the chip. I already have exhaust, but I was debating to get the intake after I get the chip. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you decide on a Volant intake (the best all around CAI, IMO), PM me and I'll get you a great DodgeForum price!

Also.... I can get you a great price on the Superchips too!

Wouldn't suggest the Volant just on the fact that the intake pipe to the conical filter restricts the flow by itself. IMHO it looks like they tried to smooth out the flow into the throttle body and then stuck in a conical "drop-in" filter. The point of the intake is to let the engine breath easier, breathing through another straw, even with a less restrictive filter, still a straw. The pipe does lead to the outside, drawing in cooler air, by maybe a few degrees, but I doubt its enough to offset the size of the pipe. Plus, you're not going to get that nice rumble out the front end from clear down there.

Hmmm.... I'm sure where you are getting that info from.

What do you mean "drop in" filter? Why do you say that the intake tube is too small?

I agree with him. The intake tube in the volant looks about the same size if not smaller than the current stock box inlet. Thats why I was asking if it really made a difference.

Like I said, from what I see, the stock box looks pretty free flowing and Im not sure if getting an aftermarket CAI will improve at all. Any suggestions?

To be honest, I admit that the only information I have is what I can find on the internet since I am not privvy to test data. I can only apply my degree to what I find. This is all my opinion, and everyone can have their own or, honestly, be more experienced than myself.

What I meant by the "drop-in" filter is that it would seem that they took a stock setup and used a conical filter to replace the stock filter, thereby creating a "drop-in" filter style replacement.

As for the intake tube, to me, it just looks too small. What's the point of having a larger filter with more surface area to pull air thru when the tube ITS breathing thru is smaller? I'm not saying the Volant is a bad design, or does not work, I'm just saying I believe there are better models out there.

I AM curious, however, to the difference in air temperatures inside the engine compartment as opposed to the air "scoop" down by the valence entrance.

My only suggestion, if you really don't want to worry about a crazy aftermarket CAI, I'd just throw in a more free flowing filter. I bougth my CAI for the better filter and the sound.

Yea, I agree with you. It looks just like the stock air box with a conical filter installed in it.

I was told that K&N drop-in replacement filters are worse than the stock paper ones.

But I was also told that its much better. So I can be pulled either way.

I was just about to say screw all the aftermarket intakes and just buy a $40 intake off of ebay and putting a K&N filter on it and calling it a day.

That seems to be the most logical and most reasonable solution.

I have yet to see one of these $40 intakes. What are they listed under?
