I am guessing he is having a hard enough time just getting them to pitch in for a 5.7.

You should try to remove some of the mods before taking it in Or get to a dealer where you know someone, that always helps.

is that the 5.7 hemi or a 6.1? sorry if this is a stupid question i cant tell the difference but i think it looks like a 6.1.

It's actually called Tone Ring. It's a device that can be used anywhere you want to use a magnetic pickup to sense speed, it has notches cut out of it and the magnetic sensor sees the points and registers it. A counter can then count how many times or how often this is happening. That can be related to RPM because you tell the counter how many counts are in 1 revolution, depending on what accurracy one wants the count can be anywhere from 1 to however many bumps can be machined on an OD and sensed by the sensor.
