Default Odd Noise 2004 HEMI

I have a 2004 hemi ram (regular cap short bed if it matters) and I am hearing a weird noise from under the cab. The best way to describe it is that it sounds like the pipes are cooling off, BUT, it happens soon as you start the truck and continues for the whole drive. If it was the pipes you would figure you only hear it when you shut it off. Anyway, I did not have much time but I took a roll under the truck and I do not see anything that looks like it is clanking. Also the exhaust all seems tight.

Any ideas would be appreciated. The dealer looked at it and said it is just the pipes cooling. For some reason I dont beleive them.

Any ideas or input would be MUCH appreciated.

I had the same sound on my 04 and now on my 05. I took the 04 when I first noticed it. They told me the same thing, the exaust is cooling off. But honestly, how can it be cooling off when i first start it? Hell, I would like to know how retarded these service managers think the consumer public is. I would like to know what the sound is myself.

Mine does the same thing (03 Hemi) within 5 seconds of starting it. Exhaust components really do heat up fast. I got under the truck and it did in fact turn out to be the exhaust system.

Man it has to be one of the most annoying things. I imagine there is nothing I can do about it. Just deal with it.

When I hear "pipes cooling down", I think "ticking noise". You have a Hemi. There's ticking. This is completely normal. It does it most when you start the engine, will die down a little as the engine warms up. They all do it.

It's your exhaust manifold, tighten the bolts when cold . The gasgets are leaking. If you wait to long you could burn them out.

was your 04/05 stock when this noise would happen?? I never had the noise when it was stock or even when i got my imco put on. Only after putting on some pacesetter longtubes i'm getting a strange noise. I've checked all the bolts and there tight I have no idea what the deal is. I'm still running the cats with it and they did have to move them back almost a foot. I'm guess that might be the problem. My truck kinda sounds like a tractor. imagine a baseball card on a bike and the spokes keep hitting it really fast. The setup still doesn't look right to me when i look at it. I'll take some pix in a while
