2006 Ram 1500 Laramie Exhaust Question?
This is my first post so forgive me for bringing up an exhaust question if it seems trivial. I have read many many posts on the exhaust setups on 2004 or later Rams, but can someone please explain to me what looks like 3 mufflers from the cats back?
If I start from the exhaust manifolds on the engine they both come down into cats, then each side comes out, then they both meld together into a Y-Pipe, then into what looks like the first muffler. Then out to a straight pipe, then into what looks a larger cylindrical second muffler in the middle body of the truck, then out over the axle into what looks like a third muffler?
My question is, are all three of these things mufflers? I read on this forum that the last one over the axle is probably the resonator, but why are there two additional mufflers previous to it? I purchased a FM 40 series muffler with dual 2-1/4 pipes because I wanted the dual look out back and a meaner sound and wondering where I should cut the stock exhaust off. I was thinking right after the two sides meld in the Y-pipe before the first muffler? Is that correct?
Any help would be appreciated, and I thank you in advance.
BTW - This is my first truck and I love it

So there are two resonators?
Is the muffler the large cylindrical tube in the middle of the truck body and first resonator is right after the Y and the second resonator is just before the tailpipe over the axle?
When I replace the exhaust is it okay to cut the exhaust before the first resonator after the Y?

Got the new dual setup with the FM Super 40 installed on Saturday. All I can say is WOW! It sounds like an old school muscle car and I love it. It sounds just like the flowmaster sound clip on their website. http://www.flowmastermufflers.com
The 2006 stock exhaust has an additional resonator up front right after the Y, then the muffler, then there is another resonator right before it exits on the side. I had the exhaust cut right before the first resonator and then installed the new setup.

You can definitely tell when the MDS kicks in because it immediately has a lighter tone but in my opinion it doesn't sound bad. It kind of sounds slightly stronger than idle if that makes sense.
