I have a 1996 Dodge ram with a 5.9L motor. I took it to the local Dodge dealership to have the water pump replaced. They told me I need a new water pump and they had to remove and replace the timming cover. There is no water ports going through any timming cover on a 5.9L Dodge I have ever heard of. They just wanted to charge me for removing and replacing they timming cover. What a rip. I'm I wrong are there water ports into the timming cover on a 5.9L?

The passages do indeed pass thru the cover and I would have done the same or not offered a warranty since the cover gasket may leak after they do the pump. I'm surprised they did not ask you about a timing chain. Would have only been extra parts charge.
Did they offer an explanation on why cover should be resealed? If not, then that is a error.
