P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
My light just came on today. This is what I got when I used the key to pull the code.
A couple months ago, my light came on and I took it to the dealer. The mechanic ran the diagnostic machine and eventually determined the gas cap was bad. So he replaced it and everything was fine.
I've looked at the gas cap and it doesn't have any of the markings the bad one did, i.e. no rust or wear. I made sure it was tight when I put it back on. Where is this leak? And is there any way to clear the code to see if it comes up again?

Hello Magnum, just saw your post. Part of the evaporative emmissions stuff, is the charchol canister. There have been a few people on the forum with the same problem, turns out the rubber hoses ,three, I think, get rotted at the canister, and throws the same code.
If there is any leakage of vapors at all while the engine is running, it will send the code you have. My suggestion is to start at the canister and check those hoses very carefully. Also check all that are in the engine bay. I they look bad, or cracked at all, replace 'em. I suggest using the new silicone type that can be had at Autozone, or any of the various parts houses. Good luck, should be a fairly simple and inexpensive fix----I Hope.
