getting around the governer
i heard that on late model rams when youre driving fast (my truck shuts off at 106) if you turn the key all the way forward like you would to start it up and hold it there that it will kill your computer temporarily. ive been in a truck when this was done and something makes a loud beep and then the gauges all go down to 0 and none of them work, your radio goes off and you cant roll up or down your windows or anything its basically like the truck is shut off except your hauling ***. this lasts until you let go of the key. and then everything immediately goes back to normal. my question is will this hurt the truck in any way. my friend that does this has had his truck for 3 years and does it all the time and has never had any problems but someone told me that its bad for the starter. is this true or are there any other problems which may arise from doing this (other than wrecking my truck lol)?
2002 RAM and later, if your truck is running, and you turn the key to the start position, nothing happens. The truck is smart enough to know it is running, so it does not engage the starter. When you turn the key to the start postion, the run signal is lost from the ignition switch, which turns off the radio/blower motor/power windows, as to give more current from the battery to the starter. Run_ACC#1, 2, Run_only#1 and #2 are taken out, so you loose power to those items that operate off of these signals. The only circuits that have power when in the start postion are Run_Start and Unlock.

those are the ignition feeds controlled by the ingition switch. When the switch is turned to the start position, contacts in the switch are made to the Run_Start and Unlock circuits only. That is why the radio, the HVAC blower, and power windows quit working when the ignition switch is turned to the start postion.

Just buy a tuner (Superchips, preferrably) and it completely removes the governor
Just buy a tuner (Superchips, preferrably) and it completely removes the governor
a question about the superchips...when you use them do you have to keep it plugged into your truck at all times or can you reprogram your computer and then unplug it and keep it elsewhere?
you only need it plugged in when you are tuning, you can remove it and drive around without it plugged in.
tuners arnt very expensive, you can buy used ones for a couple hundred. and its probably a better idea then f***ing up your engine and spending ALOT more in repairs because you tried turning the key @ 100mph.
