Default Superchips Programmer Questions

Just wondering who has one and can answer some questions...

I was reading the broch for the FLASHPAQ which is I'm guessing you all have. I see you can have 3 pre programmed modes that come with the programmer (from them I assume).

8 7 O c t a n e P r o g r a m f o r E c o n o m y
- Will I see any gas milage increase? (I'm guessing nothing major is changed)

9 1 P e r f o r m a n c e
- It adjusts the timing and shift points?

- How far up does it move the shift points?

- I noticed truck shifts way earlier then any other truck I have had. Is this for any real reason, or dodge just being @$$'s about the truck? Can it carry on higher RPMs and increase power and improve times? If the truck would carry on higher in the range per each gear, i would see that as a total advantage. Correct me if I am wrong.

- Can I tell a difference when I switch to this mode?

G e n e r i c
- Is there any downloadable updates to get even better tuning for 93 octane?
- Anywhere I can get better programs to put on the vehical?
- Can I go back to stock at anytime?
- Can I switch between the programs easily? (While Driving?)
- Anyone got the H/P increase ratings for the precanned programs?
- If I CAN get other programs (say for 93, or custom ones others have done), what kind of H/P gains?

P u r c h a s e / W a r r a n t y
- Where can it be bought and how much on average are the programmers?
- Good modifcation to get (bang/buck?).
- Will the dealership have any problems with it? Or just set it back to stock if I take it it for any service work?

M o d s
- One more quick question, lets say I get upgrades (CAI, Exhaust), anything I can do with the programmer to help utilize the power? Or basically just use the 91 Performance and let the mods do what they have to do? Or can people from the board say, "change this or that if you got the CAI" ?

I have one and can answer a few of your questions. It lets you raise the rev limiter, which in turn automatically raises all the shift points. The higher you set the limiter, the higher it revs before it shifts. It is great to rev up a little higher at part throttle shifts, to keep it from "falling on it's face" when it shifts to 2nd like it does stock. It is adjustable in 10 RPM increments from 6000 to 6300. I use 6220. Any higher and revs too high for my comfort. (I need mine to last for 250,000 miles) Also shifts firmer, and it shifts at my setting at about 6100 RPM's full throttle. Also lets you raise the MPH limiter to 140, and lets you adjust your speedometer if you change tire sizes. You can't change settings while driving, but you can pull over and make changes in about 10 minutes. EXCELLENT improvement for the money. Shop around, look through previous posts. You can find vendors selling them for less than $400, shipping included. Not sure of the answers to your other questions.

Default RE: Superchips Programmer Questions

I am buying a superchip programmer for 349.00 including the programming here in Houston? Is it difficult to program these things??? I used to have a Mustang GT before with a chip but it was installed once and that was it never saw it again.

Go to www.pickupsplus.com Speak to Harold if you want one. Tell them Edwin recommended you.

Also will there be a big noticeable change with the:Superchip programmer, K&N CAI, and a Magnaflow dual exhaust on my 2004 Ram 1500 34K miles, QC, 4.7L, 20" wheels? Currently I manage to do 12.5mpg/city and hwy mix. If I drive like Grandpa then I can get 13.8/14.2 mpg city.

I purchased a K&N CAI, Maganflow Cat back system, and the programmer to see if I have any improvement in Gas mileage!!! But all this work is scheduled for Monday 5-8-06. I will post the difference in a few weeks.

Any feedback will be appreciated

Go to their site. There are instructions there.
Here's a summary:
You plug it into the OBD port and it comes on. Turn the ignition key on and turn off all other accessories while your doing the programming. Select your performance mode (87 octane for me)follow the prompts from the programmer. During the programming you will need to turn your ignition off and on several times until the sequecing is complete.
It take approximately 10 min to do. Longest part is uploading your stock programs into the SC module.
Return it back to stock prior to getting (dealer) service or you'll loose your program and have to buy another SC. ...That. and the dealer may void your warranty if the see the ECU modified.
Returning to stock takes about 3-5 min.

To answer a question at the top: Installing an exhaust and CAI will have no adverse affect on the SC programs. Considering these enhancements benefit a stock truck to a small extent, the addition of a chip or flash which results in enhanced fuel mapping, ingition curves, and altered shift points will only improve what was already there by the same margin. That's not to say the SC isn't noticable, it most definately is. Its just means the combination of hard parts will not exponentially rise with the addition of a SC flash.
As for tuning the SC to get better performance from mods, it's not gonna happen. The gains from a CAI and exhaust are not large enough that the stock computer isn't able to keep up with it. The SC's performance program is adequate enough. If you want more power, you're gonna have to dig deeper into the motor, or shed some weight.
If you were running forced induction (blower, superharger, and even nitrous) then you'd have something to be concerned with.

I got mine used off ebay for my 2003 Quad cab 5.7 liter Hemi. As long as the person with the programmer sets the stock settings back into his truck the programmer can be used on another truck. I received it and worked 100 percent. Used the extra money I saved and bought a new pioneer radio. Hope this helps. D

...it's really simple to install...takes about 10 minutes...just to play it safe make sure all devices are off (radio, fans, ac), I just did my update to the new database (041).... I used 87 octane, some users have stated that it actually gets better performance at this setting using 91+ octane gas than the higher option does...

I just reprogrammed my 05 Qc hemi Yestureday with the Performance setting and I notice better throttle response and slightly higher shift pionts, I ll mess around this weekend with the other options (spedo-tire match, lower octane gas, etc.) for what I've seen up to now it is well worth the $350-$400 you spend on it plus you have a scanner/code reader!

I bought it at Stripper Motors (forum Sponsor) good price and free shipping. (Email them for a better $$$)
