I dunno about the '05s. But for my (now totalled) '06 the manual said that 5w20 is what was needed. My '06 had an MDS in it and needed a lighter weight oil or the cylinder shut off might not work properly. I don't know what the '05 manual says about it, but I would go by what it says.

yep, 5w20 is what you want.

'05 recommends 5w20, as well.

I have a hard time finding the stuff. If I want oil I have to show up at AutoZone on Tuesday afternoon when they get there shipment in and cut it out of the pallet myself to guarantee I get what I need. It's pretty annoying.

They get very little 5w20 on a per week basis. The store manage told me he has no control over what they get. Sounds like crap to me. The voice of the customer is so important in business.

They can do it for as cheap as you can yourself ,plus they have 5W-20 in both petroleum and synthetic! I just had my first oil change in my 06 last weekend. 7 qts of Mobil-1, 5W-20, $49.00.

As far as the 05 models, read your owner's manual. Also refer to what is stated on top of the oil filler cap, easy enough. I'm blown away by the amount of people in this forum that have never taken the time to read their owner's manual. Over half the questions in here wouldn't be asked if they took the time to do this simple, and responsible task.

Do like I do, read your manual and then place stickys for quick references in sections you know you'll come back too. Sure beats not knowing about your truck.

Check the maintenance book as well that accompanied your owners manual. There you will find when to change your plugs, differential fluid, etc.

I put it in my 05. I also buy M1 at Walmart, but I can not get the 5 QT jug in 5w20 But Walmart saves me $$ on my Viper and Jeep!

Your correct that I could have gotten the answer from my owners manual, and really i can not argue (very well) on why i didnt take the time to review, but these forums do have helpful ppl and I appreciate the feedback.

Don't worry about not looking it up in the maintenance book.
Sometimes it's a great idea to post on such a helpful forum as this.
The people on here have done the jobs themselves previously and can point you in the right direction. If only to the correct page in the book ha ha ha
They also give a person who hasn't done this sort of stuff before confidence from their experience. That's a priceless thing right there.
5W20 is the way to go bro and it can be any synthetic you want, as long as it's a high quality "named brand" such as Mobil/Amsoil etc etc.
