2006 MOPAR tubular side steps
Hey everyone -
Just took delivery of my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport on Thursday. I LOVE THIS TRUCK! It's a replacement vehicle for my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, which was a Lemon. Anyway, my wife was having some difficulty getting into the truck when we went for a ride, so I headed to my local parts department for the oval tubular black side steps.
Besides being a bee-och to install, I noticed that the brackets mounted to the body vice the frame.
Have there been any problems with this setup on the 3d gen trucks?
Andy

Yeah -
I'm confident in the KIT (kit being the parts) but the mounting method seemed to leave a little to be desired. I just don't know how I feel about putting my 200lb self on a step that's attached to sheet metal essentially.
No complaints though, eh? I guess that's a good thing.
Thanks,
Andy

It pretty clever the way the hanging brackets pushes and pulls to distribute weight. I was suprised how light the entire system weighs.

Yep, my buddy has those on his 02' and they look great! I didn't like how they mounted, but it's kind of cool how they are adjustable. I went out and bought the Westin side steps, and they have a heavy duty bracket that bolts up to your body mounts, and is very strong. So strong that when I ACCIDENTLY drove off a 3ft. cliff (I didn't know it was a cliff!!) It didn't even phase the mounts, nope, in stead, it bent the tubular rail! I was very suprised. I still need to get a new one to replace it.
Yea, the instructions suck. For the 2006 model Ram, The way the hangers are set up, four brackets that attatch to the under side of the truck. Two on the back and front of each step bar. When you step on the bar, one hanger holds the down force while the other is designed to hold the step from pushing back under the truck by exerting the force up ward against the bottom of the truck. In effect it is attached to 4 locations per side. Its pretty clever by distributing the weight force at 4 different locations under the truck even though it conects to only 2 possitions on the bar itself.

No problem. I mounted the Mopar steps myself in about an hour. What threw me a bit - Im still not sure I believe it- was that the center of the tubes isnt bolted to the bracket. Its just used as a support ... or at least says the Parts Manager. Is he wrong ... does every one else have the center bolted to the center bracket ?
I have DeeZee nerf bars.
They are only attached at the ends of the tubes.
There's a bracket on each end that attaches to the rocker panel w/ 2 large bolts, and a diagonal brace that runs from the bracket to a body mount.
VERY SOLID SETUP.
The bars don't move, and the rocker panel doesn't flex.

At least I think I understood your question right...
