2006 Ram Hemi Sport Headlight Issue
Hey all -
I took delivery of my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport on Thursday of last week as a vehicle replacement for a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee lemon I had.
I LOVE THIS TRUCK. The Rams have always been the sexiest trucks on the road but the 2006 has really raised the bar. I am a little disappointed in the lack of head-snap that the Hemi provides in the '06 vice my JGC Hemi, but I understand why it was reengineered and can live with it.
My question: When I'm driving at with the headlights on and turn the engine off and then turn the lights off, in that order. The interior gauge lights go out but the headlights seem to stay on. I get out, shut the door, lock it (with the keyfob) and the headlights stay on. I actually have to UNLOCK the doors for the headlights to extinguish.
I know this is far from a major deal, but is there some sort of delayed headlight shutoff so you can safely walk away from your vehicle or something? Or is this a problem that there may be a TSB out for?
Thanks,
Andy

This is good news...
So let me get this straight: I'm driving along at night with the headlights on. I park, shut the vehicle off and rotate the h/l **** to off. I get out, lock up and the lights stay on? Sweet.
How long to they stay on? I couldn't find it in the owners manual, which is why I asked. [&:]

Yeah my 06 does this too as does the Benz we have. Ive gotten used to ignoring it and just letting it shut off, personally I cant tell you when they shut off but they do eventually. It should be somewhere near 15 seconds?? (Very Rough Guess)
My 2004 does the same thing. The trick is to either shut the engine or the lights off first, depending on desired response. Engine off then lights=lights on for 20 seconds or so. Lights off then engine=no lights.
Yeah they all do it in all trim levels. If its that much of an issue why not turn the lights off first..like i do...then turn the key off and push the lock button to keep from waking your neighbors up at 2am with the Beep fob.
You can disable the "Toot" if you want.
I think you can even disable the headlight delay (pretty sure I saw that in my manual, will check and report back tomorrow.)
I'm really glad they made almost all of the "touchy-feely" features user-programmable, hated that damn seatbelt beep. Now before some safety-conscious type corrects me, let me clarify, that I do use my truck for "field work" that requires the occasional trip where I have to roll thru a parking lot or city street late at night and hop out at few cars to check the vin before calling in the "RIG"... that beep was too much.
Also like being able to have ALL the locks open on one click, I think it saves battery life in the fob.
Now if only I could figure out how to prevent ALL the doors from unlocking when I hop out..........
