Default Wrong Oil

I think the dealer may have put 10w30 in my 05 Hemi. Should I really worry or just check him the next 3000 mile change. What if any damage could occur.

The 10w/30 will be fine. It is still in spec as long as the temps don't drop below freezing. It is the MDS that really requires the 5w/20. The 5w/20 is good to increase gas mileage and is the "new standard oil" It is being used in many foreign and domestic engines including those from Honda, DC vehicles, Ford, etc. Bottom line is your ok, but if it bothers you that much, complain and see if you can get a free oil change or something.

How would you know that the dealer put 10w30? Did he tell you that?

It's probably on the receipt. This has been a common occurance around here. I wonder if they get a better deal on 10w/30 bulk?

It has been on the receipt before they stated that the receipt automatically prints that. The real reason for my thought is the last time I got the oil change the tech went to the parts department and got 7 qts of the right stuff and I noticed this time they used the bulk pumper. I could be worrying about nothing but I'm kinda **** about my stuff if you know what I mean!

OK, an even better question.

Why are you paying someone else to change your oil?

For real!! With Mobil 1 bulk at wally world going from $20-$25 or plain dino for $10-$15 why would anyone not change their own oil. This is assuming that you know how and have the ability to do so.

I have a 04 1500 hemi. been using 10/30 in it with no problems. But i live in Florida were its freaking hot as hell in the summertime. I don't trust 5w20 here in the summer just seams too thin of a oil for the extream heat here.

Well, maybe because of the ease and convienence of driving in somewhere and getting done quickly. Not to mention having to deal with disposing of the used oil or going to the parts store to get the oil, filter and other misc items. The you have to have all the tools, drain pans, funnels, rags, etc. and a place to do it. (ever change the oil in the winter, in the midwest without a garage? I have and it sucked big time)

I changed my oil for many years starting when I was a teenager. However, now that I am older, have a busy job, 4 kids (with another on the way), a home, family obligations, extra-curricualr activities, etc. finding the time to even change the oil is a non-existant proposition. If you can change your own oil that's great but for a great many people it's not an option. My time is worth money and I'm OK with paying a few extra dollars to get the oil changed so I can have the time I would have spent doing it on something else I enjoy.

just my nickel's worth.....
