Default Paint Problem

Guys and gals,

I bought my 05 Ram QC back in November and it has been a great truck. However, there is a spot on the side of the truck that looks like the clearcoat is coming off. Also, there are places where they sprayed the two-tone silver that specks of sand or grit were sprayed over. Finally, looking at the truck from the rear, the silver is painted unevenly so that it is below the bumper line on one side and above it by more than an inch on the other.

Obviously, this should be something they should cover under warranty. However, in my experiences with paint and body (wrecked my 99 corvette a few years ago and the paint was horrible), a new paint job might be worse than what is on there right now. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter? Do I want to give up my truck for a week or more risking a worse paint job or do I tell them to repaint it?

Dave

Dave,
I would definitely check into it, especially if it looks like the clear coat is separating from the base coat. In fact, I think I would clean up the truck very good, then in good brite sunlight, take several digital pictures of it, showing the defects. Start with the dealer you purchased it from, and if necessary, go directly to D/M. The fact that the paint wasn't applied correctly indicates a warranty issue. It almost sounds like they sent that out after they received it to have the lower tone added after the build of the truck. You have every right to demand to have it fixed until it is correct. You paid hard earned money for a vehicle you waited a long time to get, and there is no reason what-so-ever that you shouldn't get something that meets the standards and quality control.

Give em Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would!!

Good Luck

Although mine is not a 05, i noticed the same thing with my 02 some time after getting it. Not much you can do, but use the touch up paint. And you're right about the paint job, it will probably make matters worse.
