A/C Problem
Hi, new here, but not new to the VB forums (been a member on Dodgeintrepid.net, 300Mclub.org etc for over 5 years) so I performed a search and came up empty handed... Well, I drive a 2002 Chrysler 300M special and my father drives a 2002 Ram with the 4.7 Sport model...
His A/C worked great a few weeks ago and recently here in MA we have had a few HOT days... Go to put on the A/C nothing... Go check the R-134A level, very low, but full of air... purge the system and try to get it recharged... The compressor wont kick on... Relay is good, but the A/C clutch fuse in location 16, keeps poping... Im not very mechanically inclined when it comes to A/C system, but anything else I cant do blind folded... A/C's where just something I dont want to mess with... But I want to help out my dad and get his A/C working again...
Anybody have an Idea why it would keep poping the fuse?
I appriciate any input!
Thanks!
Bob

I would say check the clutch it might be shorted out inside use a volt meter to check it, as you know its a electromagnet so it sends power into in to make it a magnet to lock up the clutch if its shorting out inside the windings that make it a magnet it will blow out the fuse every time. better then burning up the wireing.
Yup, Speeddemon145 is right---time for a new clutch. The system may not have been full of air if it worked a few weeks ago. Most likely you will need to pull the charge out, pull a good vacuum and weight in a new charge. the total #'s and oz's can be found on a sticker for the a/c under the hood. Also, do not exose the oil for the a/c system to moisture as it is hygroscopic (sucks up water) big time. The biggest reason for the vacuum before the system is recharged is to remove the moisture. If you don't remove the water, it generates all sorts of nasty ugly stuff that destroys your a/c system. Then you get to start all over again for around 2 grand
