Default RE: what do you guys think of this.....

well this may make more sense - got this email back from the truck shop with more description

******
the flowmaster kit is 3 inch stainless steel pipe with polished stainless tips, dual exit out the rear or side. There are less expensive kits they will do the job but not be as nice or have the same warranty. We can not install a 40 series muffler on your truck becouase they do not offer a cat back kit with that muffler. Feel free to come in and discuss these things with me. Have a great day.
******

all stainless steel> for the money ill go aluminum

i dont think i understand what cat back truely is, but never the less - I want loud powerful sounds, but nothing that is going to be so loud in the cab that the little one can't sleep or i can't hear the radio. 50's may be the way to go.

Also someone recommended magnoflow - i guess they may be an option too - have to research them

Well if thats the case then DONT go for the 40's cause they'll be to loud for your kid. But just so you know Flowmaster does make a Cat-Back System for the 03' 04' and 05' Dodge Rams, The only thing is that its a dual same side exit and it comes out infront of your rear wheel i do believe.

That is ridiculous. That little bitty muffler, what looks like about 5 ft of pipe, a couple of hangers for 513.00? I would go by a local Meineke, the one here does good work, and price out a single in/dual out 50 series, with the same outlet configuration. They will give you the same warranty, if not better, than the 'speed shop'. I am going to be getting mine done pretty soon, but we just bought another house, so all my spare cash is going into it. Oh well, LOL.

I guess to each his own because I love my super 40. It is not too loud for me and I can definitely have normal conversation in my truck. I bought the flowmaster 17397 and switched the 50 HD with the super 40, and I could not be happier.

I agree with Phatboy. I had Meineke do my exhaust Flowmaster delta flow 40 single in dual out with rolled stainless steel magnaflow tips. $434 .... done in a couple of hours. And what's this nonsense about "we can't put a 40 series on your truck cause there isn't a kit for it" ? That would be a clue to avoid them like the plague. They obviously don't have the ability to fabricate.

I have an 06 hemi 1500 quad cab 4x4, was going to get the 40 series, but was told that the 40 series on the 06 hemi decreased MPG, and that Flowmaster now makes a 50 series especially for the 06 hemi. So I got the 50 and I am happy with my sound.

I went and got the dual super 40 on my 4.7 last week and it cost $200 installed with 4"x18" slash cut tip. The super 40 has damn near no in cab resonace at anything over 40mph as well unless you pass. I love em
