Default Force shifting

I know that you can "force" your automatic tranny to shift by accelerating untill its about to shift from first to second and the releasing the gas for a split second so the RPMs go back down and repeating this process (basically its like speeding up all in first) but will doing this hurt your transmition?

Its gonna shift on its own anyway, why do you want to accelerate hard and make it shift sooner.

Basically what your doing is simple, you're driving a truck with an AUTOMATIC transmission. When you accelerate, the vehicle speed increases, and therefore the transmission will upshift.

oK YES with an automatic transmission if you just stomp on the gas and watch your speed vs your RPM you can tell when it shifts and it will Automatically shift, however, from what I have noticed with my ram and previouse trucks after it shifts your RPMs will drop and do not increase as rapidly but by pulsating your gas meaning you accelerate to the point that you are about to shift based on your RPMs and then let off the gas and then a split second later hit it again, it seems accelerate faster and thE RPMs seem to climb faster and higher than what they would normally be......

If I'm understanding what you're asking, then you're basically trying to raise your shift point, right? Why not just hold your trans in 1st with the column shifter and shift up to 2nd at the desired RPM's?

Better yet, why not just let the computer do it for you? You're not going to outhink it, so don't even try. Peak HP and torque is @ around 4500RPM for the 5.7, and if you floor the thing from a stop you'll see the computer does a good job of shifting right around there anyway.

A lot of times, I admit I'll drive around in 2nd gear just to get some growl out of the exhaust, but it's not worth it trying to out-do the computer for anything but slow cruising. What if you accidentally shift it into neutral?

Im not talking about physically shifting it on the colum, one of my friends did that with his chevy, only he bumped it up in to reverse on accident going about 85 down the freeway needless to say he doesnt have it anymore....... Everything that I've been talking about is in normal "Drive". I dont think Ive even switched it to second gear yet to be honest........

Also I know that this method does work (from my experience with my truck and other vehicles and friends vehicles) My question is will it hurt my transmission?

It sounds like it is still shifting normally so.... I would say no different wear then normal.

Chances are, the computer will save you from any possible damage anyway, (torque management). If I understand what you are asking, I doubt if you could possibly hurt the tranny just pushing it to shift a little sooner. If anything, I imagine it might hurt your mpg a little
