Removing factory stereo from 2006 ram
Hello,
I am looking for instructions on removing my factory stereo in my 2006 Dodge Ram quad cab.
If anyone has a website with illustrations or not or if you have done it and want to tell me the steps it would be great.
I am installing a Clarion dxz665mp.

I'f you can find out if the interior is the same in an 04 I can help you with this one. I think the cover just pulled off but I need to look ther might be one or two screws. Its been 2 years since I did mine after all.
The best advice I ever got about working around stereo in my truck was to let somebody else do it. Unless you've got alot of experience the difference in quality will be huge especially with complicated installs. (head, two amps, speakers, subs, XM) Anyway I know thats not really helpful but if you decide to do it i wish you luck.
Open the ash tray, and remove the two screws that hold the center stack bezel in place. The just pull the bezel away from the IP. The radio is held in place by four screws. What radio do you plan on replacing it with? The 2006 radios are CANBus radios. If you remove the radio, you will set fault codes for improper module configured on the CANBus. Proceed with caution.
Should I only be concerned if I have steering wheel controls.
I went to www.canbus.us and it explains that it is a chip for multifunction or something.

The company doing the install should be familar with the 2006 Dodge Ram. CANBus is the communication protocol that replaced the J-1850. The CANBus needs to be configured based on the number of modules connected to the bus. This is done in the TIPM (fuse box). You will need a diagnostic tool that is capable of CANBus communication. As long as your aftermarket device does not connect to the bus, and you are not removing anything from the bus, you will be fine.
