Default 2006 Ram - Help with Goodies

Hi All,

New to the forum, and this is my first post. Two days ago, I bought a brand new 2006 dodge ram, regular cab, short box, 4x4, sport package with a 5.7 Hemi.

The first day, I found the truck was sluggish off the lights. Tonight, I was down 1/2 a tank, and filled up in highest octane and found a large increase in power. I'm guessing the dealer filled her up on regular or something kicking around on the lot...lol

Truck rides like a dream, and is very aggressive. So, my question. Can anyone with a 2006 Hemi, please help me with both opinions, and part numbers to the following

1) The best possible exhaust for this truck. I have flowmasters on my 1971 Challenger, and know all too well how loud they can be. I want best performance, will a slight rumble. Not sure between flowmasters or Magnaflow.

2) I would like to add a chip to this truck, but have no idea what part number, or which to buy. The truck will only every see the hightest octance regardless of price. Any bonus input like
"how to's" with a super chip (like ideal shift range, etc) would be most appreciated.

3) I also wanted to address the air flow issue. From stock to a K&N set up. Once again, any personal feeling on this one, how to's, part numbers, anything to help would be super. I saw something about a stage 1 and 2 online, and thought it best to just ask someone using an application.

Those are the three things I'd like to do first to this new truck. I bought it with 20 miles, and now have 200.
Any and all thoughts to these three things would be a huge help. I'm hoping there are a few 2006 Hemi owners.

Thanks
Mike

Anyone with a 2006/Hemi done atleast one of these?

Curious, the exhaust and super ship are close to the same price. What would be the best imporvment for the truck performance between the two?

Thanks

Congrats on the new truck. I myuself have an '06 QC with the Hemi. I'm new to Rams but these guys in here know their stuff. I have 2 Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers on mine and I love how it sounds. Quiet at idle and the light but a nice deep rumble when you take off. I heard an '05 Hemi with a magnaflow and it sounded good but I didn't like when the RPMs got above 4,000 RPM.

I don't think Superchips make a chip, but a programmer.

What I would do is go through some of the messages and look and see what other guys have done to theirs. There's a lot of websites too. Good luck.

K&N intake, Flowmaster 50H.D. (these give a slight rumble not an ungodly scream) and as far as superchips, set it to 6000 for the shift point. Your truck will be able to outrun almost anything on the road.

ahh, now the board is hopping. Thanks for the responses.

The MangnaFlow are starting to concern me. I want a slight rumble, nothing like my Challenger.

Nos - I'm not familiar with the 50H.D, but will research that over the weekend.. Thanks!
Also, one question about the superchip. If it was set to shift at 6000rpm, would it do it all the time?
On one hand, if programmed to do so, I'd guess that it would. On the other hand, unless racing, I sure don't want the truck shifting so high when just going through a rural area.

So the dumb question - if set for 6000 RPM, will it shift all the time at that/ If not, how does the chip know?

Thanks so far.. when spending so much.. I want to spend it right, once.

programming with the Superchips doesnt take much time after you do it once, so after that it takes only minutes to reprogram, so if you're going out with the intention of making other people jeleous, program it for shifting at 6, if only doing a daily driver, program back to stock. The only problem is that i dont think they make a superchips for the MDS system yet.
In regards to the 50 H.D. system, click here scroll down to the 50 H.D. and click "sound clip". They sound mean, so knock yourself out.
Cheers

I am really happy with my new muffler, it is an Aero Turbine "AT3030" if you leave the stock resonator on, sound wise I think it will be what you are looking for.
Go check out their web site and listen to the hemi audio clips. I did notice a nice boost in Torque and HP and better MPG to boot.
I bought a K&N drop in filter, I think that will more that do the job without droping 200+ for a CAI. K&N part # 33-2247. Also I would only use SuperChips reprogrammer IMHO. I just got an emial back from them 2 days ago saying the reprogrammer for the 2006 Hemi would be available mid July.

Congrats on your new Ram and have fun with the upgrades.

06HemiTRX4 - Thanks for the thoughts and experience with the Aero Turbine. I'll definatly see if the local custom exhaust carries both Flowmasters and Aero Turbine.

Both sound great in the audio clips, though I lean just slightly to the sound of the 50 HD. If I went with the Aero Turbine, I'd leave off the factory resinator.

I do also appreciate your thoughts on dropping in just a K&N filter, and not doing the kit. If the gains are close, but I'd save much money, I could use that towards something else.

nos4fuel - Thanks for that sound clip, wow!
The added info regarding the programming was also a great help.

Your welcome Mike, just FYI alot of the guys that bought the Aero Turbine took of the factory resonator and have said that the in cab noise is so bad that you can not even have a conversation. It is a very loud muffler without the resonator, not trying to tell you what to do on your own truck, just a heads up from what I have heard. What ever sounds best to you is what you should do, let us know how it all turns out.

I just did the Gibson Swept side. Very nice rumble at take off ... and a nice hummm at cruising speeds. I'll try to get some sound clips. I do have a video recorder but not one with a usb port. Ill try to figure something out ....
