What oil do you use?
I've been pretty loyal to Shell Rotella T fully synthetic but it's a 5W-40 and the Hemi calls for 5W-20??
I'm curious what people are using in their 5.7 Hemi's, how long between changes and type of oil filter you are using. I'm only going to be putting on 6-7K miles per year. The salesperson was blah, blah, blah about synthetic and that regardless of the owners manual to change the oil every 3K miles. I've done a TON of research on oils the past few years and found 6K intervals to be fairly normal and that with some synthetics you can double that mileage or more with proper filtering. I'm not suggesting 12K intervals I'm just stating what I've read. There are people who run Amzoil 30K+ between changes with proper filtering and swear by it. I've been running the Rotella T synthetic in my Saturn for 6-8K with a filter change between oil changes.
Any feedback would be great and appreciated.

I have been useing castrol gtx 10/30 in my 04 1500 5.7 reg cab with no problem. I live in fla and Its too hot for 5/20 oil here in summer. As for oil filter I always use puralator filter. every 3k miles.
I also have a 95 mitsubishi mirge with 1.8 L . bought it bran new and also used 10/30 castrol in it sence 25 miles on it and now has 261,000 on it with no breakdowns and don't leak or use any oil between changes. so I am sold on castrol oil.

Mobile-1 baby! And I change it every 6000 miles.
As for weight, the 2006 HEMI with MDS must use 5W-20 regardless of the ouside temp. The MDS system will not operate properly with any different weight and viscosty.

Amsoil 5-20w and Napa Gold filter every 4000 miles in my GMC. 104000 miles on it and it does not leak or burn any oil and averages 20 mpg on the highway.
Just changed the oil in my 2006 Dodge at 1800 miles with Castrol Syntec 5-20w semi synthetic to insure a complete break-in before changing to Amsoil completely at 4000 miles.
Rear end gear oil to be changed this week to to Amsoil Severe Gear Oil and a new chrome diff cover too.

Have you tried the Amzoil filter for your Dodge? I planned on running the original oil 3K then switching to synthetic but I like your suggestion of semi synthetic first.
Mobil 1 filter and oil. But I do work for ExxonMobil. I change it every 6K. The oil looks clean. I drive mostly highway miles. I drive over 500 miles to work and back every week. I work offshore 7 and 7.
For my non-MDS Hemi, it gets a steady diet of Mobil 1 5w-30 ever since it clocked 15K on the odometer. Prior to that I was using Castrol Syntec Blend at 1500mi, 3K, 6K, 9K, 12K miles. I'm also using Purolater oil filters.

I think the Mobil, Purolator and stock filters are made by Champion. I won't , nor would I ever suggest Fram, they are very cheap and I know WIX makes a better quality filter for less money. I see amzoil has one listed in their cross reference guide but kind of a generic description and doesn't specifically list an 06 Ram with a Hemi, but does list two 5.7 litre engines with the same filter.
