2005 4x4 transfer case question
For the 2005 model Ram 1500, it was possible to get a couple different transfer cases for 4WD. I believe you could get the part-time transfer case (with a floor shifter) or the AWD transfer case with the "weenie ****".
I have the part-time transfer case with the floor shifter, and I am looking to know if this is an electric transfer case, or a manual. Is the floor shifter just something to make some of us feel more old school (and eat up floor space), or am I manually engaging gears when I shift it?

RE: 2005 4x4 transfer case question
So unlike the electric transfer case, if I shift it (or attempt to) into 4WD at 100 MPH, then I risk tearing some stuff up? Or are there mechanical lockouts that keep it from shifting outside of acceptable conditions?
Just curious for the sake of knowing, as I would never attempt such something like that, even if I was supposedly protected against it.

RE: 2005 4x4 transfer case question
Technically,
You could shift it into 4-wheel high at 100, on a dirt road or something similar, and be ok.
I doubt you could get to 100 mph in 4-wheel low, and if you did get it shifted, you'd most likely dump the transfer case and all its contents all over the ground.
I'm not suggesting you should do this, but we all have our own ways of getting thrills!!!

RE: 2005 4x4 transfer case question
They say you can shift the manual t-case at speeds up to 55mph. I wouldn't try it any higher.
Maybe the synchros would handle it. Probably cause some damage somewhere.
The electric case would probably just not engage until the speed reached a safe speed.
