hitch/tow question
I have an 05 Ram 1500/Hemi...i need to know this: if i get a uhaul trailer, say a 5x8 size, can i tow that without having to get a hitch put on, in other words can i stick a ball directly onto the bumper and tow it like that? or do i need to get an actual hitch installed? Thanks guys...oh by the way...i smoked a titan yesterday...hooray for me! im the greatest
You can tow directly from the bumper with no problem with that size trailer. Dont take turns too sharp though or you will dent your bumper. It happens real quick with the dodge bumpers. If you are going to tow often i suggest mopar for the hitch. They are direct bolt ons with only four bolts and look really nice. Can be installed on your own.
I also suggest you get a Dodge bolt on reciever. It is under $100 and takes literally 15minutes to bolt up. PM me if you decide to do it and I'll offer you some tips/pics to help you along if you'd like.
I work for uhaul... we will let you tow anything up to the RV and AT trailer with the bumper mounted ball. As was said your trailer might ride a little high, but you should be ok. Taking turns will not be an issue, the trailer turns way quicker than the truck can and will not get close to damaging your bumper. All that i would be careful of is backing... do not jack knife, you will screw up the bumper badly and bend the neck on the trailer... that will probably not be covered even if you opt for the safemove.
Of course my advice would be to get a real hitch, though on our trucks that will not help your tow rating at all. You are less likely to screw up your tailgate with a wayward trailer...

I agree with installing the receiver hitch, fairly simple job and less then $100 and comes with DODGE hitch cover and cover plate for the bumper.
On my Ram it's 28" from the top of the ball to the ground(stock), I couldn't even get my trailer up that high let alone think of towing it LOL.
