New member New Hemi
Just picked up a new 06 Big Horn with Hemi. It is the Inferno Red with 20"chrome wheels. I was very very close to picking up my third Chevy when I stopped in to the Dodge dealer and this one caught my eye. Beautiful color and nice riding truck. The payments were a little less than the Chevy too. I have a couple of questions.
How much break in should the Hemi take before the mileage and power are up to snuff. I ran against my 03 Z71 Chevy 5.3 extended cab and could not seem to beat it with my new Dodge. We actually started out doing a mileage comparison on an abandon road just to see how they compared for mileage. Well of course it turned into a few 1/4 mile runs. It was very close each time. I think the Hemi certainly had better on the top end but down low the Chevy would put a couple of truck lengths on and hold it to about 80 then the Dodge would start to pull a little on it. Should they be this close?
Second question I have now added a True Flow cold air intake which actually seemed to help the mileage a little bit on the highway. I have also removed the snorkel from the airbox. (Small curved peice of plastic at the front) Is it safe to do this? It seemed to wake it up a little but it could be just noise. Will this help or hurt acceleration/mileage? I have removed the airbox breather from every other vehicle that I have owned and it always seems to make them sound better.(Other vehicles include 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2, 1998 Ford Mustang LX 5.0, 1989 Ford Taurus SHO All seemed to greatly improve with snorkel removed.
Thanks

Hey Haj,
Welcome to the forum. Your truck will start waking up at around 5k miles. Just follow the break in recommendations in the owners manual.
The "snorkel" you removed actually takes air from the right side fenderwell, the Dodge factory version of CAI. I can't see how it would really hurt you, but it does pull hot air from inside the engine bay
