Default AIRRAID Cold Air

Hey ALL,

I ordered a cold air system for my Ram, can anyone tell me what to watch out for?, How long should this take, 1- 2 hrs?, I also got a airraid spacer, is this just a paper weight?, should I cancel it ? or will it work with the cold air.

Thanks.

I plan on having custom exhaust put on the truck next week. So I figured it will be a sweet sounding ride.

The spacer is a PAPER weight... so I would cancel that ASAP... As for your induction system goes, the right one will free up some HP... Im not a fan of the AIR RAID...

Why don't you like "airraid"?, are there better one? I'm north of the 49th in Canada, selection is slightly limited, unless you want to drive, or wait for delivery

I did an impluse buy the day after i got my dual exhaust installed. Bought the airaid kit that replaces the top of the factory airbox with mit tube. Complete waste in my opinion, there are some ppl out there that like and love the airaid, but its hard for me to give a solid opinion because i installed it right after the exhaust. My exhaust is so loud i can't hear a difference with my filter. The throttle response time does seem better, but that may be in my head????

All in all, i wish i was patience and waited for an AirRam. Some ppl think Airram brain washes ppl on the forums, but really most ppl love the airram setup and there is really nothing but positive feedback on it. I would have like to have tried it first, but im stuck with my airaid, and am not going to swap it out $$$. I did however buy a jet stream scoop (should be here in a day or two). I think it will add nicely to my airaid setup for 50$$.

All i can say is research. If you are doubting your purchase now, you will probably not be satisfied with it when it comes.

Installation however is a breeze. Any dope with a flat head screw driver and a socket set can do it. No problem 15-30 mins top.

Thanks,

---------------------------------

Also forget ppls opinions - think for yourself, where is the best place to get the most air for cold air into the enigine, i have to say a setup like air rams is better than our airaid, which gets its air from the factory box - im really hating myself for being so impatient.

BTW, anyone else with an Airaid, please post, i would love to feel better about myself. Not to mention Airaids webpage does not give dyno results from dodge, only tested with other models

i put an air raid intake on my 2006 dodge and it totally woke it up. i then went ahead and through a magnaflow cat back exhaust. you will notice the throttle response right away from the air raid. as far as installation 15-30 minutes sounds accurate

The Airaid was tested by volunteers against other makes here:

http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=14140

An airaid was tested against a much older & and restrictive 2nd gen Ram factory airbox on this board a few months ago:

https://dodgeforum.com/m_452358/tm.htm

when I look at that dyno graph I am a little concerned that the hp and torque gain shown does not go up with rpm.

A less restrictive air intake in an accurate test (on any gasoline engine) would be expected to show almost no gain at low rpm and then show a widening improvement with rpm. The gain at 4000 rpm should not just be twice that of 2000 rpm, it should be about four to eight times more. The same is true of exhaust systems.

If you go to the Hypertech website and look at their dyno graphs of 'stock' Rams
compare a 5.9V8 of model year 2001
to a 5.9V8 of model year 2002-2003
and you will see that Dodge definitely improved
either the stock Ram air inlet system or the exhaust system (or both)

My two cents:
skip the aftermarket air intakes
spend money on exhausts, tires, aftermarket PCM computers, etc
because you will get a
'better bang for the buck'
by far...

Want a cheap easy way to gain hp?
Try cheating the same way Roger Penske's racing teams do....

here is a stupid question though, i never did take the negative battery lead off. Why did it recommend you do that, just so you wouldnt short the sensor?

The only reason you would remove the negative battery cable is to reset the adaptive memory in your PCM... this gives your PCM a new slate to re-learn from. I reset mine every oil change, I have noticed that I get better performance each time I do. You dont have to reset your PCM but I recomend it... You can use that method to turn off engine lights as well.
