Default Need help quick! 4:56 gear swap....

I just got a call from my mechanic who said the ring on the new gears is really thick and is offsetting the pinion shaft not letting it line up. What the?? Anyone else have this problem or can give knowledgable input? I would hate to pay him to put the old crap back in!

UPDATE:
I just contacted the dealer of my R&P and he said grinding of the gear is a must with the Chrysler 9.25 - he said with any brand gear. I've never heard of such! Why the F... would they build a gear you have to grind??

YES its simple...

Tell your Mechanic that the pin needs to be shaved on a NON CONTACT surface.. When installed the pin will come into contact with the end of each axle... those are the sides you can NOT shave... but either one of the other two sides can be shaved. All he needs to do is shave enough meterial to get it to pass the ring gear.... Its actually real simple to do once you have done it once. If you like you can have him call me at 817 800 7760

Print this out and take it too him... As you can see the surface that has been shaved is facing back... it is a NON contact surface on the pin... shaving it allowed the pin to be installed with ease.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to forward this page to the shop tomorrow and let him decide which is easier. Grinding the tooth is what the distributorship said too.

Yeah, but its less than 12 bucks to replace the pin and more than a hundred to replace the gears.... I personally lean towards shaving the pin... it has no purpose but to space out the axle's... Your Ring gear has CONSTANT stress on it all the time… why potentially weaken the ring gear when you don’t need to.

Either way will work...
