turn a 1500 QC into a 3500?
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram Quad Cab short bed & want a Quad Cab long bed dually. I was wondering what the differences are between the two. Are the frames the same and one is just shorter? Could a 4.7 auto with add ons do the job of a 5.7 or diesel that come in the 3500's? I'm trying to build what I can't afford. Any assistance is helpful.
lets see, suspension, brakes, axle, gear ratio, torque/HP, probably transmission, heavier frame, etc. You can't make gold from aluminum.......
By the time you did all the upgrades, you would be better off just getting a used 3500.

Sorry man, you would be alot better off just buying a used one. Trade in this truck and buy a used one. You'll end up buying a whole new truck anyway. A 4.7 could not move a 3500 dualie.
Ha Ha Ha.... A wise man once told me "the only substitute for cubic inches is CUBIC DOLLARS" In other words, you could turn thet lil' QC in to a dump truck if you had enough money....
Can't be done. If it were a megacab (but then it'd would be a hemi) I would say maybe since then it would have the same frame. If you mean 'do the job of a hemi or a cummins' as in haul/tow as much there's no way.
the difference is weight: 1500 (also with ford 150) 1500 lbs, 2500 (f 250) 2500 lbs, and so on...the difference is literally in the numbers

I figure turbo to up the torgue. A shift kit for transmission. I want to backhalf the truck with 2"x3" box tubing. A big brake kit. Air bag suspension. I want to haul a three car trailer with mini trucks on it. Telling me it can't be done just makes it happen, but I need details about the difference. I owe more than it's worth, of course, and trading it in will turn a $20,000 3500 into a $30,000 3500. I've checked into it and it would be cheaper to build it than to buy it.
I hate to tell you, but it will NOT be cheaper to turn it into one. You expect to buy a frame and everything else involved? You're esentially buying a brand new truck. The 4.7 can't pull it, you need at least a Hemi or Cummins. No turbo kits are made for the 4.7.
