5 Speed Hemi

Hello, I am new here but this site looks great. I was wondering if I could get y'alls advice.
I used to own a 2002 2500 Cummins HO 6 Speed, and I really loved that truck. It was amazing, with more power than I ever needed. But it was nice to know that I could do anything I ever needed to.
I am looking at getting another truck. I am looking at an 04 2500 Cuadcab Hemi and a 5 Speed. I expect that it will not have as much power as the cummins. But I would like to know if this is a good combination? Does the Hemi have enough power for this truck given the fact that it is a 4 door long bed? I will regularly tow a 22' ski boat with it, but nothing huge. Anyway, any advice or thoughts on this combo of truck would be great. Thanks. Josh

The 2500/3500's do indeed offer the hemi with a manual transmission. But they are not too common.
That truck your looking at is probably better suited to towing than the automatic version.
Will it tow to your satifaction? I have no idea.........
Will they let you try towing with it? (on a test drive).
If you still have the cummins I would just keep that though........

As long as you get a 1500 Crew cab with the Hemi, it will be more than suitable to tow a 22 ft. ski boat which weighs at most 4500lbs.? However the 5 spd 1500 is an Auto five speed, and you will want to look at the gearing, try to get the factory 3.92 gears. If you are looking to get another 2500 or 3500, as already stated, don't get the Hemi, just opt for the Cummins option. If you were happy with the 02, you'll love your 06 or 07...

The 2500 does come with the Hemi and manual transmission as standard. Dealers rarely stock them so its tough to find one for a test ride. The manual transmission currently used is a G56 which is a Mercedes trans used in larger trucks. It is the smae transmission that will come behind the Cummins if gotten today. It is stout. I have driven this combination and you should have no problems at all towing something that light. I would recommend the 17" wheels and the 4.10 rear end. Your performance will be better and the 4.10 will not hurt your mileage. It's a good combo that you are looking at. This transmission is also a 6 trans with the first gear a granny.
