Your fifth gear is direct drive so it`s the best for towing. Power flows straight thru the trans so there is little wear, friction or heat produced and it uses less power than the other gears. Watch your temp guage on hot days and that little short stroke 4.7 will be fine at those RPMs.

Took the family camping again this past weekend. Same load as before but this time the outside temp was between 75 and 85 degrees and the hills were a bit less steep. Truck pulled up the hills in 6th gear without a problem. I ran most of the distance in 6th gear at around 2100 rpm, A/C on some and off some. I guess that 25 degrees in outside temp makes a difference.
Also rechecked the trailer tires and found that they were at 42psi cold instead of the 50 psi cold that is recommended.
