Spark plug change
I just bought my first Dodge truck and am wondering why the plugs have to be replaced at 30k. I have always been under the impression that plugs are good for longer especially the platnium plugs. I was searching for this info and read how fun it should be to change all 16 plugs and am not looking forward to changing them. Any help would be great.
OE plugs are copper core/tip and 30k is good time to change them. I changed mine at 30k and they all looked normal but new plugs made noticeable difference in mileage and responsiveness. They're not that hard to change though, definitely a DIY project. Let us know when you're ready to change them and we'll give you all the info you need.
Thanks for the replys. I did not know the OE plugs wer copper core that would explain it. Now my signature didnt attach hopefully it will this time but my new truck is a 06 1500 QC with the Hemi. I want/need this truck to last me a long time so i want to make sure i do all the stuff needed. like i said i am new to dodge and this whole 2 plug per cyl is totally off the wall to me.
I read on here that it takes a mechanic 2 hours to change the plugs but i am not a great mechanic so it would take me a day probly. I will search around for info on changing them i have a few miles to go before needed but i want to be ready. the truck has 54 miles right now and i really like it alot so far.

I have 33,000 on my factory plugs now in my 04 1500 5.7 and its still running great.was going to change mine at 30k but keeped putting it off and so far no problems yet.
many of manufacturers have moved to Iridium plugs for the OEM's from the factory. My wifes Intrigue had them in it, and like the "Good Weekend Mechanic" that I am, I decided to change them at 80k miles.
They are supposed to be good for 100k. When I pulled them, I noticed that the center electrode had transfered metal to the grounding tip, essentially maintaning a gap that the computer could adjust for. I did go ahead and change them, and didn't notice any change in performance, or mpg. This is a totally stock, maintaned vehicle with 110k miles on it now.
I imagine you could also do this with a Hemi, but at $10-$12 bucks a pop, that is a minor investment in one of these. I'm changing mine this weekend for the 5.7 with Champion platinums at 2.98 each.

Yo Gone Fishin..............www.sparkplugs.com have Irridiums for our trucks at $7.20 a pop mate.
That makes them well worth it in my opinion.
I've had mine in for 5000 miles now, with no problems.
I love the idea of the extended life. They are a bit time consuming to chage out all 16, but not hard at all really.
The time changing them out etc ,swung me into buying the Irrids'.
