Acetone is OCTANE booster, if you buy octane booster acetone is what you get. It won't hurt truck.

May not hurt but according to the owners manual higher octane fuel won't provide any benefit to the vehicle and the manual advises against it. Sounds like snake oil to me.

I used to have a 95' Pontiac Trans Am, and I used 3oz for every 10 gallons in it. With premium fuel, I say an increase of 2.5 mpg. I didn't think it was true but I'm dead serious. Haven't tried it in my truck yet though....

I say again, it works. Plenty of the "yea right" syndrome. It isn't regularly used because acetone eats rubber and plastic. A small ratio like what is mentioned is not suppose to hurt but I do plan on owning my Ram for a long time and don't want to have to replace fuel lines, vacuum hoses, anything else that comes in contact with the vapor That is the only reason I don't use it in there. In my 91 Celica (124,000mi), I really don't care. It is my P(iece) O(f) S(***) daily driver. I have been using the mix for about 2 years now. If you use it, you WILL see at least 3mpg increase using the same grade gas you normally use. All you opponents, just take to heart, if you haven't tried it, it is hard to make honest judgement. No bash, just the way it is.

OK, does anyone have any links to more research on this stuff? I commute 130 miles each day (NOT in my truck btw) and 2-3 mpg would add up quickly. I've had some bad experiences with oil additives years ago so I stay away from anything other then some Lucas fuel injector cleaner every so often.

Acetone is paint stripper, correct? What is the cost factor? I mean, how much does it increase your cost per gallon vs. mpg saved?

I won't run it in my truck but my Saturn IF safe might be a different story, thats what I use to commute with and 3 MPG would give me about one extra one way trip to work without filling up again. I run exactly two tanks a week and I dont' watch my speed much, IF I watched my speed AND this stuff actually works I COULD get an extra full round trip each week. Something to ponder.

OK, well that got my attention. I fwd. to a friend who manages a factory and has a few chemical engineers on staff to see what his reaction is. I might try it out for a few weeks for my commute and see if I notice a difference.....I fill up exactly twice a week and on my last day of work I can get home without the fuel light coming on only if I don't do any other driving other then straight to work then home. IF this stuff works then next Saturday when I get home I should be sitting just below a 1/4 tank rather then just about on E. My tank holds 12 gallons, I'll start out with 3oz per tank. I'm skeptical of everything so if this works I'll profess so right here and anywhere else.

It will take mulitple tanks
alternating using acetone
then not using it
to be able to see whether it works.

If the acetone damages the rubber seals on your valve stems
or the o-rings on your fuel injectors
or the seals in your fuel pressure regulator inside the gas tank
the damage won't show up right away - perhaps months from now.

It ought to tell you something that there is not a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) paper saying that this additive to gasoline works.

There are SAE papers saying that different additives work...like tiny particles of platinum or cerium oxide.
Shell Oil company has tried adding some additives that improve MPG a bit,
but those additives turned out to damage the fuel level sensor on Chrysler vehicles (not Ford or GM sensors) Shell was running TV ads touting those additives a few years ago. Some here may have seen them.

If you want to do something with gasoline that is nearly guarranteed to improve your MPG
you can simply start weighing exactly one gallon of gasoline.
The heavier one gallon of gas is, the more likely it will give better MPG.
Your area's gas stations probably get gas from at least 3 different sources.
It is almost a certainty that these different sources of gasoline have different 'densities'.
Filling your little tank with exactly one gallon also allows you to check the gas pump meter for cheating,
which is done by some unethical stations.

I hope that all of you who use these chemicals are aware of how TOXIC this stuff is. Cancer, Nervous System damage and more. Is a minor increase in mpg worth the risk? Are you carrying this stuff in your car so that you can add at the pumps? Dangerous stuff.
