I ran 87 through it and clogged my fuel rail and injectors. I think though, that it was the previous owner who had also run 87 through it and f*cked it up. >>>>>>

Could of been some bad gas or poor quality/brand.

I would say the octane rating had nothing to do with a clogged fuel rail and injectors. I run 87 unless 89 is the same price. After 45K, i've noticed no noticable difference between the two.

The stock tune is for 87 octane, with some pinging possible depending on load, temperature, etc.

If you experience pinging, (some people can't hear it or understand it) then you should run
a higher octane. Most times the computer detects the pinging before the driver ever does, and retards
the timing to prevent the knock and possible engine damage. The downside is reduced HP/performance.
Running 93 octane is never going to hurt anything except your wallet.

The whole idea about octane is that it's a measurement of the fuels resistance to detonation.
It has no info on the additives or lack thereof that make a gas "good" or "bad."

well i cant speak for the HEMI engines but i know that sometimes whats recommended isnt nescessary. My pawpaw has a lincoln aviator with the big engine option (not sure what size but i know its rated at 320 hp) and it is supposed to only be run on 91 or higher octane but he runs either 87 or 89 (some stations have 87 as their low grade and some have 89) all the time and it still runs great. i wish he would come up with a reason to borrow my truck for a day cuz i would love to have a few hours with that 320 hp engine mated with a six speed auto tranny. ive only driven it a few times and he was in the vehicle so i couldnt really test it out but i know i was with him when he race a qc hemi and smoked him. i thought that was pretty cool...my 60 yr old grandpa street racing lol! sorry i got off topic...
