Default Calling Air Ram

Air ram,
I posted a question about a questionable performance chip. As much as I figured, it does appear to be a scam. One of the replies stated that you sell or recommend a solution that is chepa and reliable, without messing up the engine. Please fill me in.

P.S. This is my first Ram truck ('03 5.7 hemi), so I'm a little green behind the ears.

Thanks

Yes, that chip you found is NOT a chip at all. It is just a resistor. What they do is completely remove your AIR TEMP SENSOR and use the resistor in place of it. This resistor will give the PCM a FIXED temp and no matter what the actual intake air temps are this fixed temp will not change. This is bad because your engine will no longer be able to adjust to the constant changing air temps... this could lead to a LEAN/RICH condition and either one can burn up O2 sensors and your Cat... In most cases when the PCM detects more than a 53 degree difference between the AIR TEMP SENSOR.. or in this case the resistor, it will STOP using that sensor and start using the battery temps as to adjust the AF ratios and timing... this will cost you performance as the battery temps are HOT! This means LESS timing and LESS fuel for LESS power. That mod may work for a short time but I have heard from more than a few people who have ended up with a FRIED PCM after installing one.

The POWER WIRE is MUCH different because It allows you to KEEP your actual Air Temp Sensor. This allows for the your PCM to continue to adjust to the changing air temps... but with the POWER WIRE it will read 20 degrees cooler at ALL times... so if the Intake Air Temps are 60 degrees... with the POWER WIRE installed the PCM will read 40 degrees... and it will advance the timing approximately 3-4 degrees and at WOT add approximately 2.5% more fuel. So what you get is more HP all round. The POWER WIRE has also been used by many people who’s extensive mods have caused a WOT lean condition... the POWER WIRE was able to richen up the A/F ratio by one full point.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.
