speaker question
I have an 04 2500 qd cab diesel.
The sound system sucks. I dont believe I have the infinity system. I would like to keep my stock stereo because it has the navigation system on it. I read a bunch of posts about people just replacing the door speakers and having a huge improvement in sound quality. But those threads were with truck with the infinity system.
is there a way to improve the sound without getting a new head unit?
I have 2 10" subs that I would like to use but I need an amp to power them (which I have) but again I would have to get a head unit .
what are my options?

RE: speaker question
well, you can deffinitly do as they did and replace your factory speakers with some quality aftermarket speakers no problem there. as far as being able to use the subs with the factory headunit, if i remember right, there is a invertor that you have to buy which you would plug ur RCA wires into and then that invertor would connect to your headunit. i'm not 100% sure about this, because i saw this setup on a 98 jeep. somethin else you might beable to consider is try using a stereo system out of a srt-10, since they come with a sub and amp and all that jazz, but i couldnt tell ya how integrated that is. hope any of this was helpful in anyway

RE: speaker question
to hook up subs just take a regular rca cable you would use from a head unit to the amp, cut the rca connectors off one end, and strip the tiny wire in the middle and splice that into any rear speaker wires. That will send the sound to your amp. You can also get a crossover coil which will take all the mid and treb outta the sound and leave you with just bass. I did this in my truck with two 10's and sounds awesome

RE: speaker question
Yes. I replaced the factory speakers in the front doors with Polk db690 and I don't have an Infinity sound system. The sound was a huge difference! I can't recommend this enough. Info on the speakers here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vsNy0Tn...i=107DB690#Tab
I did eventually add in a Bazooka BTA6200 right on the floor just behind the center console - not a huge amount of bass, but perfect for me. It's easily removable too. Info on the bass tube here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vsNy0Tn...isplay=Bazooka

RE: speaker question
I hooked it up using a harness I created. I used Bazooka's optional F.A.S.T. harness as a model.
Basically, you just need to connect the bare wires from the bass tube's inclued harness and connect them to the wires behind the head-unit using simple crimp-on connectors: Speaker L/R +/-, power and power ACC on. Grounded on the seat bolt near where I mounted the tube. The hardest part was running the wires under the carpet to the rear of the front seat. The carpet is formed, so I had to peel as much back as I could and then forced it through a slit I created in the carpet.
No need to change the rear 6.5" speakers since they are barely heard. Just leave them in.
Just saw your other question: yes, the Polks fit right in. Just use the spacers that come with the Polks.
