Real 4X4
I am on my second ram and I have to say that their traction sucks. anyway, this one is a TRX4 with 3.92 and antispin. Well after having gotten well and truly stuck in a mudhole last week and whatching my right front and left rear spin, i gotta say there is not to much antispin involved. My buddy in his grand cherokee eventually managed to get me out, and in the process I got to watch all four of his tires flinging mud, was kinda frustrating.
My last truck I put an auburn rear with 4.10 gears. This one I think I will probablly be doing 4.56, however as it is a 4x4 I had a couple of questions... firstly do any of you have an auborn LSD and go off roading? Do they actully work off road? If not does anyone make a locking rear end that actually unlocks whilst I am turning?
Finally what should I do with my front diff?... is it and open diff from the factory?... and what can I do to get both front wheels getting me unstuck?

Front diff's are almost always open type from the factory. Most LSD's adversly affect the steering response. I've used a clutch type one in a Ford with manual locking hubs. The steering is only different in 4WD that way.
LSD in the front is minimum for serious 4x4 action. Lockers are even better.

Detroit True Trac is a gear type locking rear LSD.
It works by using Torque bias, in ratios of 2.5 to 3.5:1 range.
The manufacturer also states they are "ideal" for front diff LSD application as well.
I've PM'd you a web site with this info as I'm looking for a good solution for my rear LSD, as I have the dreaded C Clip issues.
Hope this helps you mate?

Your rear end tanked on you? I hope not, cause that might be a pain to get fixed on the other side of the pond. Hope everything works out for you.

Luckily, it appears to be one of the left side clips. Apparently, if a right side goes, they cause deep grooves and score marks in the axel housing itself, needing a full carrier replacement from axel to axel. You can still run around with the C clips missing in the LSD, but if any other clips come loose, depending on if your gears pick them up etc, you could find yourself with a lot of mashed gears.
I can get all the bits to do the job, but finding anyone I would trust with any experience to do it over here, is a different thing altogether..........
Needless to say, when I do start the job, I'll change to 4:56 gears and either an Auburn or Detroit True Trac LSD.
