yup Mustang, in 1979 The Fox body replaced the Pinto inspired Mustang two. The Fox body Mustang was identical to the Ford Fairmount in suspension and undercarage, bodys were not identical, But the Fairmount and mustang are basicly the same car.
In 1979 the 302 was rated at a whopping 175 H/P, who knows how much made it to the rear wheals, any how 345 H/P from any carbed or Fi injected 302 is not hard to get with aftermarket parts, Stock H/P grew with rollar rockers.
So No way, a big dodge ram with a hemi is not even going to be close, the ram is close 4x the whight of the mustang..

In 92 the 302 was rated at 225hp net. Having ridden in and raced against them, I firmly believe that number to be a little low. Minor work puts them well past the 300 mark. Some investment makes them powerhouses but they tend to twist up the body then, Fox bodies are definitely not known for their structural rigidity....
Put it this way HP wise they are probably both fairly close to each other but the BIG difference is that when you take all that HP and put it into a truck its gonna be quick there is no doubt in my mind about that but when you take all that power and throw it in a small light weight car the thing is gonna fly! Just think of it like this if the Viper STR-10 and the Reg. Cab SRT-10 were to race the viper will win. It doesnt matter that they have the same engine cranking out the same (or close to the same) HP the viper will win because it has all that power in a small light weight car vs a big ram..... The only difference maker here would possibly be the drivers cause if you cant drive it then it wont perform as nice and the truck may have a chance but that would be the only factor here otherwise the mustangs got it hands down...

My 89 F150 with the 302 is only rated at 205 HP, it's a dog.

I'm agreeing with truckin151 here. Road & Track magazine, august of 2006, actually compared the Viper vs. Ram SRT-10. Here are there results.
Anyway, I don't think we can pick a clear winner because you didn't say that the race wouldn't be in snow or off-raod!
Code:
viper ram srt-10 hp 510 500 0-60 4.2 5.0 0-100 9.0 12.2 quarter 12.2 13.5 skidpad 1.01g 0.84g

Let's be realistic here. If the ram had a supercharger, maybe then it would be a close race.

IF the Hemi had a superchip and headers then it would be a close race but I believe that with the modd's the ram has the 5.0 is going to win.

Well the 5.0 mustangs where low 14second cars. And some people are hitting high 13's with headers, exhaust, superchips, cai in Hemi Ram's regular cabs with 17's.

So with all those mod's the best you pick up is about a second? In day to day driving, would a driver really even notice?

first off if a 500 hp srt10 truck is low 13's there is NOOOO way a hemi with headers exhaust and chip is even going to become close to low 13's. and will you feel it in normal driving, maybe, probably not. but lets look at it this way if a hemi truck owner wants to even come close in a race with comparable hp car then BUY the hemi IN the car (ie. charger) then tweak it a little. other than that lets give up racing a damn truck. yes its got power and alot of it, so use it where it counts. OFFROAD or HAULIN'!
yes im into the street seen and racing, im only 23 but that isnt why i bought a truck... thats why i have my 88 foxbody 347 stroker

As it stands now it would be a fairly close race but the Ram would lose too much ground on the shifts and get pulled in the upper rpm's. If your bro-in-law had headers and cutout and superchip he would most likely win (depending on how far you go, for sure the ram would take it off the line if the driver can get it to hook, but if you race too long the 'stang will pull it in the upper rpm's). If the mustang driver can shift then it's gonna be a really tough race that I would say could go 50/50, but if either driver messes up then they lose.
I speak from personal experience on this matter because my friend has a 92 5.0 that he bought used from some dude. The dude took good care of it and it only has about 70000 miles on it. The mods on his car are full headers back exhaust, MSD ignition, and we think it has a couple of other random things done to it. When we race before I installed superchips it was real close all the way through 1st and 2nd when we ran out of room. We then raced later after I had booted up superchips and the extra rpm and firm shifts helped out alot. I would pull on him in the top of first and gain a few feet on the 1-2 and the same through 2nd and the 2-3 but then in third he would start to reel me in (which by the way is 70+ so the aerodynamics start to take over) If I had headers and cutout I would pull away harder and probably all the way through 3rd...
My trucks mods are a custom cold air intake and an aft cat exhaust (which i think is actually hurting more than helping me) and superchips. And I'm running them heavy *** 20's so the 17's i know make a difference too...
