Default Road Trip MPG

last week I took a trip from Riverside California up to Kennewick Washington. I moved a friend up there. Drove straight through and straight back just stopping for gas, food, and to switch driver's, I dove and so did my girlfriend. It was just over 1,100 miles up. On the way up I had a load of 3 people a 27" TV in the back of the cab, and 10 boxes weighing 430LBS. I don't know why but for some reason my friend did weigh them. I had a 96 Saturn 4 door on a tow dolly hooked up to the back. First tank of gas I made it 480 miles which is 15.48MPG when I do the math. Second tank got me 510 miles which was 16.45MPG. I made it there on the 3rd tank with over a half tank left. On the way back I filled up and got 17.88MPG on the first tank which was just over 540 miles. On the 2nd tank I got 517 miles, which was 17.1MPG and I made it home on the 3rd tank. All and all for the trip I guess I can say I got just over 16.5 MPG. I don't think thats too bad but this was my first big trip in my truck has anyone else keep track over a long trip? If so what was your MPG?

My mileage on a long trip just about mirrors what you say you got, although I did manage a hair over 20 Mpg on one trip about a year ago, and have hit as high as 18 to 19 a couple of other times.

I think your truck is getting excellent mileage, and as you know, a lot of that has to do with the driver.

i just got done doing a 1700 mile trip in mine it average 19+, but i was dong only 65 on the highways (killed me ) but i couldn't complain about the mileage, on first tank over head read 19.7 average when i did the math it was 19.1-which was on chevron gas, second tank was on bp and the overhead read 20.8 average and that tank if i remember was low 20's, but doing 65 sucks!!!!!

On the way up my speed was avrg. was 55 or 56 according to my gps system and on the way back it was 64 according to the GPS, going through Oregon the posted speed limit was 55 for about 300 to 400 miles. Once I got into CA I was doing about 70-75 all the way home.

Thats pretty damn good for carrying the load up there you had. What route did you take? I think this Ram gets better mileage then my old 89 F150 5.0 with only about 205 HP.
