windows up or down
Hi i was wondering if this was true or how many other opinons about what my friends says. He says that if you're driving 50 mph with the windows down it's the same as using circondition because when all the windows are down it creates so much drag that it's just better or the same to just turn on the ac. I was just wondering if anyone else knows if this could be a myth or not.
I'm assuming you do not watch Mythbusters?
(oh boy. here come the flames from the puesdo-engineers)
Yes, driving with the windows down at higher speeds is worse than running with the AC. At lower, around town speeds? not sure.
Franky it's 105 here. I don't care how much gas it uses it's all AC for me...

ohh yea i watched the myth busters where they said it wasn't true that you lose gas from your tail gate and that leaving it open doesn't save you any gas. but i didn't see one about having windows rolled down or using the ac
I'll tell ya one other thing it does...back in highschool I drove from Atlanta to St. Augustine, Florida with the windows down the whole way and got a gnarly ear infection from the nonstop wind blasting in my ear

Come on guys.
The mythbs'rs are a tv show. Its not a bonified documentory.
What they do and say is only hollywood. Some good, some bs. (Like some ninja jumping as high as a building).
I watched it a while back, saw obviously flawed results and haven't watched it for long time.
Get real.

I don't know, You guys might think I'm crazy, but because I do heating/a/c for a living, I generally don't use the a/c on mine much unless its in the upper 90's and 80% +/- RH.
Going in and out of cold buildings into hot outside really tears me up. I spend my time outside mostly, and Once you get used to it, windows down just ain't bad---maybe the sun has baked my brain.
I must admit it probably looks a bit strange to see someone that has A/C driving down the highway with all the windows down on the hottest days, but what the hell. [sm=badbadbad.gif] turn up the heat a little hotter, I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, Mythbusters came up with different results. high speed with a/c on burns more gas than high speed with windows down. a/c puts a pretty big strain on the motor. It can rob you of mpg.
