Default Ram 4500 and 5500

Has anyone heard anything on these? According to Dodge the 4500 is modeled after the 1500 and the 5500 after the 2500. When I bought my truck it had 5500 badging on it yet the VIN comes up as a 2500. I went to Dodge and they checked it out and said it has everything that the 5500 will have, the beefier trans, 1 ton running gear,4.5" exhaust and a larger down tube just for starters. Any ideas what is up? My truck has a towing cap. of 23,900 lbs according to the door sticker yet the 2500 according to Dodge was only rated at 16,000 lbs.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

This is the first I've ever heard of this, but I'm interested in learning more. Anyone else know of this?
