Default Sirius Camper Problems.

We really enjoy the Sirius radio that came with our 3500 Ram. That is we did untill we loaded the camper, which blocks the satelite signal from the built in antennae on the top of the cab. The solution is obviously to install another antennae but I don't understand how to wire it in to the radio. The after market Sirius radio in our old truck had a built in antennae connection that hung under the dash but I don't see any way to make the connection this time. Has anyone added a remote antennae to their factory radios and if so, how was it wired in?

Pretty sure the sirius receiver is to the left of the E-brake pedal, not quite fully up into the dash panel. Should be able to unplug one antenna lead and plug in the new one..

I just connected the brake controller to the plug on the left side of the emergency brake. There are lots of wires and connections but I didn't see any that were obviouly an antennae wire. Am I looking in the wrong place or just not recognizing the antennae lead? How can I tell which one it it?

The sirius receiver is on a bracket (facing the dash from inside the cab) to the right of the radio and to the left of the glove box. the antenna is plugged into this receiver/tuner. If you are not familar with what the reciver looks like, look at the install kit on Mopar.com

Hope this helps,
Bill

Well my sirius tuner is located underneath the rear passenger seat (it's a quad cab). Anyway if you can find the tuner, you'll notice it uses two FAKRA style connectors, while most antennas you buy from the store will use a single SMB connector. So you'll either need to buy some sort of adapter cable, like this: http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-splitter-p-99.html , or another OEM antenna. In my picture I have converted my OEM antenna from the FAKRA connector to SMB so I could use a regular aftermarket sirius radio rather than the factory radio.

Yes it was a bummer that the cab-over camper blocked the Sirius signal but what was the largest disappointment was the lack of knowledge from any Sirius Certified Installer. Clueless they were... If it didn't come strait out of the normal box they were stumped.

I ended up ordering another Sirius antenna from the Dealership and installed it on the dashboard. I could not get myself to drill another hole in the cab or hood. It works fine and was fairly easy to install. If I remember correctly the cost was $125.00.
