Default Does this sound right to you???

When I bought my Ram I also purchased the maintenance program with it where they pay for your oil changes and so forth for the first 60,000 miles. I called dealer to ask if I could either bring in Mobile 1 or pay the difference on the oil so that I could switch to synthetic. The reply I got floored me. I was told that if I switched to synthetic I would have to pay for the entire visit out of my pocket. They claim the coupon only covers using their oil. They also told me that the trucks (SRT-10 excluded) are not high performance engines and that it would be a waste to pay for synthetic. Never heard a mechanic say that before.

I don't know about the synthetic part of the story, but I would believe the 'bring your own' part.
Weather it was an in-house program or a DCX program - there are rules that they must follow.

thats bogus, any engine that dodge puts in their trucks are worthy of the synth, like the hemi, its not a performance engine? bs my dads truck will 0-60 faster than some sports cars so i dont wanna ever hear that bs..

try a different dealership. sounds like the person you talked to is just a dick. synthetic is always the best for any motor...period. i dont care if it's a stock lawn mower, synthetic is still going to have the same bennefits on that as it will on a high performance engine. i personally think the service plan is a bunch of bull****. from all of my experiences, and some of my friend's, it's alwaysbetter to just do it yourself. chrysler will of course only honor their products and only try pushing them. but if you get someone that doesnt givea rat's *** about the bs, they'll tell you the truth and not what they get payed to say.

My dealer makes me pay the difference in the price of oil. Thats it. Find another dealer. Your truck deserves synthetic oil.

Thanks for replies guys. I am going to call up another dealer in the am and find out what the deal is. I've always run synthetic in my vehicles engines and don't plan on stopping now. Might just try to drop the plan and do it myself since I haven't used it yet.

ya go to a different dealer, it is for sure a high performance engine and deserves synthetic. I totalyl believe the other part though, they have that offer so that you have to use their stuff and use their service.

I could see that being the problem if they didn't offer Mobile 1 as an alternative, but they do....Just not with the service program. I have honestly never had a problem with paying the difference to a dealer with any other cars I've owned. I'm sure once I get a chance to bring the issue to another dealer things will easily be resolved.

Who sold you the maintenance plan? I thought most of those were Dealership specific items, and you could not go to another one...
But I don't know, I change my own oil. Mobil 1, of course.

BTW- if that lame Mechanic told you that, I would never trust him to actually put in synthetics, even if you brought it with you. He would just use the cheap stuff, and take it home for himself.
I once had the rear diff fluid changed to Ford synth. gear oil in my T-bird at a Ford dealership, the Mechanic placed the empty container, sealed in a clear plastic bag in my trunk, to show that he had in fact used the "good stuff". He did this on his own, without being told. :-)
